Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse

Pours hazy orange color with huge white head that lasted forever. Aromas of citrus and hops. Flavors of clove, dough, citrus, wheat, hops and a slight burn of alcohol. Medium body with lively carbonation. An excellent weizen bock.

750 ml bottle (the first 750 of a German-style beer I’ve seen?) from Richmond Beverage in Richmond, VT (May 2008) served near cellar temperature once the head finally dissipated from a Ramstein glass, after an entire bottle of wine and a big shot of bourbon, so this reivew is gonna suck. Bite me. Pours a hazy dull brass-bronze with a massive gout of head that refuses to disappear for several minutes living a bit of chunky lacing as it finally dies....thick caramelized bananas in the nose, light spices, vanilla syrup and a bit of bourbon, very sweet.....full and luscious mouthfeel, lightly alcoholic, quite malty and rich with caramelization dominant, a bit of woody bitterness towards the finish, little in the way of wheaty tartness though it’s there if you look for it, particularly at the end when it’s warmed a bit....not a patch on Plank or Alesmith, but eminently drinkable, if a bit pretentious and pricey in its packaging.

Pours a hazy straw color with nice dense and long lasting white/yellow head. Citrusy/floral aroma, quite strong actually, but pleasant. Flavor is quite spicy, orange peel with a slightly sweet finish and a subtle hop bite. Lots going on with this brew. For a real bite, don’t avoid sampling the dregs from this bottle conditioned beer. Look forward to trying this again.

.5l brown bottle served in a Schneider Hefe glass. Poured a hazy gold. Huge head, lots of carbonation. Bottle conditioned. Fresh, citrusy American hop aroma. I didn’t get any banana or clove like a typical hefe. There is some alcohol in the aroma. It has a very unique aroma. There is a lot of malt here. Nice mouthfeel with some bready flavors. A good amount of hop bitterness with a very dry finish. The alcohol is very evident. I wonder if they used the typical Schneider hefe yeast in this one. An interesting melding of two brewing traditions.

Bottle... Lightly hazed yellow ale with a huge, wispy, white head. Excellent retention. The aroma is very phenolic with tons of clove and light mesquite smoke. Esters include, but are not limited to, overripe banana. I can’t figure out the rest. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Sweet up front, followed by moderate bitterness, with light tanginess carrying up the rear. Spicy and citric. Lengthy, bitter, tangy finish.

Bottle shared with Ian. Cloudy golden amber with a huge white head. Lemon, banana wheat aroma. Wheat, lemon, clove spice, hoppy bitterness all show up in the taste. Finishes very dry and bitter, very good.

750ml. bottle. Cloudy golden/yellow color with a large white head. Initial sniff brought nothing but bubblegum. Additional whiffs brought out some clove and C-hops as well as a hint of banana. Flavor once again started out being dominated by bubblegum, which almost kept me from finishing my half of the bottle. After the first 4 or 5 sips, a bit of banana emerged, along with some nice hop bitterness. Very aggressive carbonation. Nice and thirst quenching since it was sampled on a hot 95 degree day. I am glad I didn’t stop after only a few ounces as this beer got much better the more I drank.

750 ml cork and caged bottle purchased at Spirits RB. Well after the Schneider-Brooklyner alcohol bomb I wasn’t expecting a lot. Well like lots of other ideas in my life I was way off. This is one fantastic beer. Aroma is excellent with a large citrus hop prescence, lively yeast, slight wheat bread, banana and slight spice, very nice. Medium bodied with lively carbonation and a great finish make this one refreshing brew. Flavor has lots of yeast, dough, tropical fruit and citrus. This is one very nice beer Mr. Oliver cheers well done Sir.
