Commercial Description:
This Beer is served on DRAFT and in 750ml BROOKLYN bottles.
In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

Bottle. Hazy dark yellow with a decent lasting head. Aroma is almost Saison like, kind of funky with lots of mellon. Big peppery flavour, mellon and alcohol. If you look for it you can pick up some banana notes in the taste and scent.

Bottled. Pours out in a cloudy dark yellow and orange colour with a rich eruptive sticky white foam. Dense aroma of cloves, yeast, perfumy floral hops, grass and spices. Medium to full-bodied with notes of yeast, tangerine, grass, flowers and dough. Yeasty finish with crisp undertones of grass and tangerine. Rather tasty but I prefer the German version though.

Shared by Stine. More of a pale ale than a weizenbock bock, the mere presence of wheat in a beer like this doesn’t seem to get it to weizen bock. Great beer anyway. Loads of hops in the aroma and flavor. Sweet malt, and alcohol. Unusual hops, a continental style. Thick and heavy. Sweet, with lots of citrus including grapefruit.

Pours with a huge, rocky, off-white head that falls. Caramel haze hue with good lacing from the head. Aroma of caramel, raisins, banana, toffee, vanilla, and a slight hop in the finish. Taste is alcohol, yeast, and raisins. Very rich but cut a bit by the dry mouthfeel. Still very nice for a "pale wiezen bock". Dryish mouthfeel, warming with light bubbles.

In short: A fruity, sweet and hoppy wheat beer. Hugely drinkable.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed fresh a few days after purchase (side by side with sister Schneider & Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse)
The look: Cloudy dark yellow body topped by a medium off-white head
In long: Copy-and-paste of Schneider & Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse description that I had side by side. About all of it applies to Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse too. Nose of lemon pie and toasted wheat. Taste has a lot of hay, flavours of crusty pie, banana cake and lemon. A little sugary. Strong spicy hops presence, with dry bitterness and white pepper sensation. Some dry herbs. Nice acidic touch in the finish. Little to no alcohol presence. Body is a little fluffy. Carbonation is very aggressive/tickling and it suits the beer just fine. Feeling of a sweetened Berliner Weisse on steroids. Compared to Schneider & Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse: a stronger hop bite hides the residual sugar in the finish better. A bit more wheaty and a touch of alfalfa sprouts. Overall a little dryer than its German sister and a tiny bit more enjoyable. Great beer. Nice german influence at work here. That cooperation with Brooklyn Brewery is a good example of Germany pushing forward their ideas on other countries, and it’s a much better approach than the one they took in the late 30’s early 40’s.

Big bottle, shared with Parksy. Pours a cloudy golden with a lively white foamy head. Initial aroma is very hoppy, resinous and spicy with underlying soft fruits and dried straw. Flavour is very sweet straw-like malts with notes of dried flowers (chamomile) and stewed pineapple, banana, and citrus. Hops are quite sharp, and a little spicy. This reminded me a lot of Chouffe Houblon, only sweeter. Parksy didn’t care for this much (I think the malts and yeast didn’t do it for him), but I liked it, even though the sweetness of the malts and sugars was almost too much for the hops in my opinion..

Courtesy of Degarth, thanks for lining up this keg for the 10/13/07 tasting.

Pours a hazy dirty gold to straw with white head. The aroma has some sugar sweetness mixed with tart and lemony notes as well as hints of wheat, the odd spice or two and banana. The flavor starts sweet with candi sugar, sugary malt sweetness and wheated malt or just plain wheat twang. This lead into a lemon tartness that becomes yeasty into the finish along with the sweetness is banana, apple faint spice and pepper. Great hot weather beer.

Yay! Totally hazed, opaque, ochre with 1/2 inch almost pink head. Lovely bouquet filled with orange blossoms, pink grapefruit, citrus zest. Big bursting mouthfeel of foam and prickle. Apple, custard, and custard apple flavors. The balance of sweet, thick wheat malts and bright citrusy hops is extraordinary. I love this beer, and would love to have this side by side with the Schneider version to compare.
