Commercial Description:
This Beer is served on DRAFT and in 750ml BROOKLYN bottles.
In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

Hazy golden pour with a beautiful nose of banana, clove, bready yeast, and other fruit influences. Same influence in the flavor with a smooth mouthfeel.

Sampled at GABF. Here’s a beer I’d been looking to try for a while. Golden color with pillowy white head. Aroma of bright hops and some spices. Flavor is hoppy and light, with lots of banana and bubblegum coming through. Though this was really good, and glad I finally got to try it.

On tap at Bulldog. Served in a Schneider weisse glass this was more cloudy and had a much creamier head than you would find on most beer. Spicy nose with the wheat and hop characters showing life with citrus and banana. The mouth is thick, spicy and almost with some orange peel character, it comes across as a wit, triple, hefe mix as the yeast, wheat and hops all come out. Great depth and smooth body. Lasting finish that is mildly spicy with orange character. Fun stuff. I like it, but don’t expect anything near a wheat.

Bottle: Hazy yellow colour, nice creamy head. Aroma of lots of citrus and fruits. Flavor is almost the same, lots of sitrus,flowery/sweet mouth feeling, and a nice medium body, and along fruity, and yeasty finish.

Corked 750 bottle that I had as a side by side with the Schneider-Brooklyner version. Pours a lovely hazy apricot amber with a large beige head with some staying power. Nice citrus hops, cinnamon, yeast, and as it warms, a bit of caramel. Medium body, grassy, a touch sweet. Finishes with a nice gentle touch of grapefruit bitter. I’m impressed. I’m usually not a big fan of Brooklyn’s stuff, but this is rather tasty, and the way the collaboration worked, producing two beers instead of one is rather nice as well. I found this one to be just a hair better than the Schneider version, but both are quite good.

Actually get a Belgian yeast aroma, assertive but gentle. Hazed gold, strong lacing. Light bodied and subtle, nice and smooth.

Strong herbal and pine aroma. Lots of citrus and floral notes going on as well. Looks great, while the white, frothy head lasts, anyway. Golden, slightly hazy body color. The flavor is quite hoppy, and very citrusy. Very refreshing beer. Somewhat astringent.

Draft at the blind tiger. Aroma was of banana, yeast, and a lot of spice (maybe corriander). The flavor was similar, and actually quite bitter due to a combination of the spices and dry-hopping (which kind of combine forces to create a medicinal punch). A strange beer.
