| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 27, 2007 Draft. Pours extremely cloudy, yellow golden with creamy off-white hues and a very thick, very well-sustained, awesomely lacing rocky and creamy white head. Simply gorgeous. the first whiff reveals dramatic differences between this and the version produced at Schneider, in Germany. The aroma introduces vibrant esters, lush hops and loads of banana and almost as many pineapple scents. Alcohol is almost entirely disguised. Minor toasted grain is supplanted by so much fruit it seems like it was kegged ten minutes ago and didn’t have a chance to settle or allow flavor integration at all. The flavor starts with just far too much pineapple taste from the wheat malt and yeast collaboration. Spice is nice, especially in the finish, where wheat and hop bitterness release earth-tonation. Alcohol warmth is notably higher than that of a typical weizenbock. Pine notes embrace soft bitterness. Sweetness is mild and well placed throughout. Lemon pokes through late in each sip. Acidity is flushed away in the finish by sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium-full, boisterously carbonated and lively. Very good, but I prefer the other version of this. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 30, 2008 Leafy clean citrus notes flow out of the beers aroma. Light yeast notes linger, but its is heavy with lemon, star fruit, light pine and fresh straw. Flavor is very clean, medium hoppy and fresh tasting. Very smooth viscous palate leads into a slight crispness, not overly hopped, but toned to the prefect amount to let the dynamic flavor remain. The flavor just gets better and better as it warms up. More and more fruity and grassy notes come out. Pwn3d (1086), Manhattan, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 5, 2008 750m bottle. 2008 edition which reads 8.5%. Pour is an intensely murky honey/orange. Nose is a citrus, alcohol, pine, and vanilla mix. Medium to heavy mouth, dough, bubble gum, banana, and astringent hops. Overall excellent brew with a cool story behind its creation. elihapa (1067), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2008 11/5/08 notes: on tap, Eli Cannon’s. Pours opaque blond with a nice-sized white head. Aroma is mildly sweet, with some passion fruit, wheat and lemonade. Flavor is complemented by a smooth, creamy palate, which to me points to Brooklyn’s trademark way of dealing with all their beers. Yet I am not dismissing this as an inauthentic interpretation. Rather, the sweet, fruit flavors blended with spicy, wheat notes are as much a “hybrid” as the joint-brewer on the label. Quality, but not superb. probstk (1060), Nepean, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2009 750 ml bottle from BOTW, shared with Lubiere, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. LOT 0668. AP02/09.
App.: Cloudy orange-golden with a loose, off-white froth.
Aroma: Huge amount of pine/resin/weed hops, orange/coriander, yeast, light tang and funk, some esters creep in, kinda Saison-ish, becomes more bitter orange and grapefruit.
Palate: Medium+ body, soft effervescence, smooth and slightly syrupy.
Flav.: lots of grapefruit/C-hops, some banana and other esters, wheat and toasty malts, yeast, spicy, light Saison funk, some light toffee and nuttiness; off-dry with nice bitterness and a bit of warming alcohol, a little too much alcohol maybe.
What a fantastic experiment! I need more! jb (1053), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2009 A rather unusual product. Not a classic weizen-bock by any stretch, but very interesting. The difference is the hops, many many nice hops used for aroma only, very aromatic hop flowers. The look of this is classic, hazy, very thick foamed, dark yellow. Thick lacing. The palate is a bit sour, dry, fruity, delicate. Overall a very nice beer. Thanks for the trade Ron!
