Commercial Description:
This Beer is served on DRAFT and in 750ml BROOKLYN bottles.
In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

Draught at Pete’s Waterfront Ale House. Poured a cloudy yellow/orange with active carbonation and a thin white head. Yeasty aromas of banana and mild cheese at the forefront, with some floral notes, citrusy hops, fruit and mild spice underneath. Flavor up front was mostly bright grapefruity, definitely American hops. Underneath was off-sweet bready/biscuity malts with some melony fruitiness. With due time, the flavor becomes something akin to a hoppy "Juicyfruit" gum. For comparison purposes, the German-made version seemed to have had way more complexity in spice and body. This version seems lighter and fruitier, with less of a clovey spiciness and more of a refreshing citrus hop quality. Does it blow me away? Not quite. But a pretty good hoppy take on an old world style.

Poured to a hazy golden yellow with medium-thick off-white head that lingered well and left decent lacing. Nose was a very strong and noticeable mix of hops, spices (clove) and fruit, especially bananas. Mouthfeel is full and somewhat tingly, and the taste mirrors the nose, with the pleasant addition of the 8.5% alcohol as the beer warmed. This led to a finish that was slightly bitter, long lasting and very pleasant. A very nice surprise from Brooklyn brewery, since I’ve not been impressed by most of their offerings.

Bottle. Cloudy deep golden colour with a fluffy white head. Aroma: spicy, yeasty & fenolic, maybe some hops. Flavor: Spices, yeast, wheat, fruit, band-aid, cloves, pepper, alcohol. Not much hops. Maybe the bottle was a bit too old. Would like to try it again fresh.

[Bottle, big thanks go to Stine for sharing!] Pours hazy golden with a good cream head. Aroma is nice, with a the expected citrus hops and banana. There was also subdued clove, and wheat. Taste is semi-sweet with yeast and banana most dominant. The clove and wheat are still there, but pretty subdued. Good mouthfeel and smooth. A very good weizen bock, but I actually preferred the Schneider & Brooklyner version, strangely enough. Still, I am definitely in need of a re-rate, as this was a tasting sample.

Bottle from j12601, thanks man! Poured a hazy yellow-orange color with a thick, rocky white head that left thick sheets of lacing. Wheaty, fruity aroma (orange, banana) with some light spiciness (clove, light pepper), faint bubble gum, and some light yeast. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some bright fruitiness (orange, soft banana) and some creamy wheat transitions into a dry hoppiness paired with some soft spiciness on the finish (mostly clove). Moderate carbonation and nice mouth feel. This was a really nice, easy drinking beer. This is something I wish was available locally. Thanks again Jay.

750 mL into Aventinus glass. Pours a cloudy bright golden with a huge white fluffy head that barely goes down leaving great lacing. Looks like a hefeweizen but smells like an IPA- lots of bitter orange, grapefruit, spicy and herbal hops, and yeast. Taste is like a saison and IPA blend with tons of citrus, spice, white pepper, Good creamy mouthfeel with little warming alcohol. Totally amazing in every way.

Hazy peach pour with a robust frothy white head. Aroma is loaded with spice and a pungent hop character. Black pepper, clove, floral hops, banana esters, mandarin, and lots of citrus round out the aroma profile. Flavor is much drier than expected. Wheat malt hits hard in the beginning with some grassy hay hop notes, and further proliferations of the spice profile so prevalent in the aroma. Very attenuated and dry- less sweetness than I thought. Palate is effervescent, pillowy, smacking, and quite dry.

Corked 750 ml bottle. Light orange color with a huge fluffy head with good retention leaving a lot of lacing. Aroma is very floral with light zesty fruits, hops and some champagne. The hops taste zesty and citrusy with a malt base present, some bubblegum and champagne in there as well. At times it seemed a little like chemicals. It’s not alcoholic but it is bold. Finishes a little sour and tangy with a lemon zing. A interesting and unique beer. I can see some hefe in it, some imperial pilsner as well but I woudn’t categorize it as either of those. Fun to try but not something I’d want to have on a regular basis.
