Commercial Description:
This Beer is served on DRAFT and in 750ml BROOKLYN bottles.
In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

Bomber. Hazy orange color, huge white head. Beautiful aroma of sour hops, citrus, and yeast. The flavor’s not so well balanced, though very complex. Banana, cloves, citrus hops, grapes. It finishes with some red wine and a bit of burn. Interesting beer, but in my opinion, not worth the price.

Pours a gorgeous cloudy golden yellow. Lots of beautiful foamy head. Really radiant, and yet so cloudy. Nearly flawless. Heavy scents of wheat and strong orange peel. Only a hint of banana. Sweet, but grounded by the thick yeast aroma. Very nice, esp for a hef. Not saccharine; balanced. A hoppy hef? This has the sweetness of the orange/banana on the hef part, but a final swallow of bitter grapefruit hops. The balance is an unusual welcome. Gorgeous hoppy aftertaste. Great for style. Thick and smooth, but a tad fizzy. Nice, bitter hop film. It’s smooth, but has a lot more than the average hef. Really nice hops. Smooth but substantial. A uniquely excellent brew.

It poured a hazy pale golden liquid with a big foam that left allot of lacing along the side of the glas. It had a very pleasent smell of both foam banana and hops. Also some yeast, passion fruit and other sweet fruits. Very nice! The first thing I noticed after trying it was the high carbonation that clouded all the flavor in the beer. After whirling it around a bit and with less carbonation it was allot better. It had a flavor of foam banana, hops, yeast with a medium bitterness. The alcohol was hidden by the high carbonation but was soon noticable. Some chemical bitterness but not so bad, it was worse in the other version and one of the things that lowered the score a bit. This one also felt more balanced then the Garett Oliver version. Very nice beer overall, I hope they do a similar experiment soon again.

Bottle. Very nice to share this with my friend Matthew for his birthday! This beer is really beautiful. A hazy golden orange colour, the bottle fills two weizen glasses wonderfully with a huge, thick fluffy white head like yeasty bread dough on each. The aroma is fantastically complex and interesting. There’s some very fresh citrus, especially orange, banana, clove, plenty of yeastiness and a whole lot of fresh leafy hop aroma, juicy and equally citrusy. The mouthfeel is thick, unfiltered and medium to full, very drinkable with good carbonation for a warm day out in the backyard. The flavour is wonderful; there’s plenty of fresh grassy hops, grapefruit, orange, lemon, banana, clove, mango. The alcohol is very well masked. The banana really stays on the tongue after taking a sip. I would imagine that bottle refermentation helps keep it tasting as fresh as it does. Food pairing options for this could be interesting to experiment with.

750ml bottle - pours a dark yellow/hazy orange with a huge creamy white head that lingers - good display of lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, apricot, peach, banana, wheat, and spice. Taste was yeasty, banana, and a mix of the other fruits previously listed - also quite wheaty. Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Nice mixture of a lot of things going on - solid weizen.

Bottle @ GOBF 08. Pours a semi-hazed golden/deep amber with a craggy white head, laces the glass nicely. Yum, I’m pretty sure the huge aromatic hops here are amarillo (smells much like the Chouffe tripel/IPA), but just huge upfront floral and slight citrus hops on top of a solid banana bread, fruity, sweet malty base, cloves and other spices dance behind the immense hop whiff. Hoppy, well rounded, spicy wheat, citrus, nice bitter end kick. Full-bodied and good carbonation, not too sweet. A great and interesting strong wheat beer. So balanced. I def need to try the Schneider version.

At a tasting, thanks Shahar, bright orange hazy with nice head, aroma of grapefruits, apricot, barnyard and some cheese notes, flavors of grapefruits and herbs, alcohol can be sensed, less complex than it’s german sister but still nice.

Golden yellow with small but long lasting head. Thin but in a good refreshing way. Spicy and bitter with a very dry finish. Perfect.
