Commercial Description:
This Beer is served on DRAFT and in 750ml BROOKLYN bottles.
In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

Thanks to Stine for sharing. Hazy yellow color with a large head. Strong aroma of Noble hops, grass and a little orange. Tons of citrus hops. A lot of wheat flavors and dry grass. The hops seem to be covering up the banana and clove flavors from the yeast. Good, but I think I like the Schneider version better.

Thin, but dense off-white head is well-retained, leaving light lacing. Medium clarity in this peachy-gold colored beer, with ample carbonation.
Tremendously hoppy nose is full of lush grass and herbs, with almost an afterthought of very light pine. Some minor tropical fruit notes can be found too. Though it’s quite dominant in aroma (and flavor), I can’t deny it’s very enjoyable. Add to this the soft banana, mild wheat and medium-dry toffee notes that break through, and you’ve got some type of German IPA, you might say. With each sniff, I get something different, sometimes lemon/lime, sometimes hickory nuts, sometimes pineapple or even cherries. The well-attenuated malts allow the hops room to roam, but you can sense a solid backbone of pale malts and only light medium malts (toffee, as mentioned). Medium-high strength of aroma, with no flaws or alcohol.
Just as vividly hoppy in flavor, though, with a superb maltiness that manages to provide both a soft, supple body and balance to the (low) bitterness of the hops. Not much balance is needed, because they’re mostly finishing hops, thankfully, though there is a moderate lemony punch on the finish from the acidity. Creamy wheat and vanilla/honey-like pale malts work perfectly with the succulently grassy, fruity, juicy hops. Mild carbonation, but enough to boost the drinkability. Very good, much more focused/cohesive than its counterpart (though I need to try that one again).

750 ml bottle. Pours a nice cloudy (had to swirl the bottle kinda hard) yellowish straw with a nice thick white head- creamy bubbles mixed with soapy larger bubbles and a soapy diminishing lace. Aroma is moderately lemony soapy some anise, spicy phenolics- vanilla, and light clove, some doughy wehat notes. Big wheaty malt flavor with some light tropical fruitiness and pineapple, clove spices, earthy floral hops, vanilla, and some lemony orangey zest in the end. Smooth, medium to big mouthfeel, but becomes a bit soapy and slick as it warms but overall this is just a good unique beer. I like this one quite a bit more than the German version.

(750ml Bottle) Purchased at Brewery Creek in November 2008 for $18; shared with Enniskillen. Lightly clouded, golden body with a frothy white head. Nose of Champagne and wild yeast, tart. Mildly more sour than the Schneider and lemon pie. More malted than the other recipe. I certainly like this but not nearly as much as the forementioned. Very good. 8/4/8/3/15

75 cl bottle. Light hazy, pale yellow colour, with creamy white head. Aroma is rubbery, dewy, with subtle and delicate hints of citrus, vanilla and dough. Also only light notes of phenols, apart from the rubber. Not as rich as I remember the German version. No parallell tasting here unfortunately. Mouthfeel is moussy, smooth, with phenolos in flavour, pretty much alcohol feel, with an alcohol bitterness. There are peaches and other unnameable exotic fruits in flavour and hints of vanilla. The thick, sticky weizenbock feel is in absense, due to the rich hoppying. The German version seemed more crazy and bizzare. I don’t know which one I liked the most, but both are damn nice!
