Poured hazy paler golden with a fluffy and sticky cap of white head. The aroma picked up sweeter cat pee and floral hoppage over toasted bananas and lighter fruits.. remarkably well balanced. The flavor had toffee and light fruity sweetness supporting quite vibrant floral and grapefruit bitterness.. banana and more of the hops on the back-end.. spicy, warm finish. Heavier-bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. warm on the edges with an estery finish. Excellent! BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 21, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a nice cloudy (had to swirl the bottle kinda hard) yellowish straw with a nice thick white head- creamy bubbles mixed with soapy larger bubbles and a soapy diminishing lace. Aroma is moderately lemony soapy some anise, spicy phenolics- vanilla, and light clove, some doughy wehat notes. Big wheaty malt flavor with some light tropical fruitiness and pineapple, clove spices, earthy floral hops, vanilla, and some lemony orangey zest in the end. Smooth, medium to big mouthfeel, but becomes a bit soapy and slick as it warms but overall this is just a good unique beer. I like this one quite a bit more than the German version. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2008 On tap at Bulldog. Served in a Schneider weisse glass this was more cloudy and had a much creamier head than you would find on most beer. Spicy nose with the wheat and hop characters showing life with citrus and banana. The mouth is thick, spicy and almost with some orange peel character, it comes across as a wit, triple, hefe mix as the yeast, wheat and hops all come out. Great depth and smooth body. Lasting finish that is mildly spicy with orange character. Fun stuff. I like it, but don’t expect anything near a wheat. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 4, 2007 Draught tulip at Sunset Grill on 9/25/07 Thin, but dense off-white head is well-retained, leaving light lacing. Medium clarity in this peachy-gold colored beer, with ample carbonation. Tremendously hoppy nose is full of lush grass and herbs, with almost an afterthought of very light pine. Some minor tropical fruit notes can be found too. Though it’s quite dominant in aroma (and flavor), I can’t deny it’s very enjoyable. Add to this the soft banana, mild wheat and medium-dry toffee notes that break through, and you’ve got some type of German IPA, you might say. With each sniff, I get something different, sometimes lemon/lime, sometimes hickory nuts, sometimes pineapple or even cherries. The well-attenuated malts allow the hops room to roam, but you can sense a solid backbone of pale malts and only light medium malts (toffee, as mentioned). Medium-high strength of aroma, with no flaws or alcohol. Just as vividly hoppy in flavor, though, with a superb maltiness that manages to provide both a soft, supple body and balance to the (low) bitterness of the hops. Not much balance is needed, because they’re mostly finishing hops, thankfully, though there is a moderate lemony punch on the finish from the acidity. Creamy wheat and vanilla/honey-like pale malts work perfectly with the succulently grassy, fruity, juicy hops. Mild carbonation, but enough to boost the drinkability. Very good, much more focused/cohesive than its counterpart (though I need to try that one again). Braudog (3778), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Bottle. Poured a hazy copper-orange with a substantial head that quickly dwindled. This has quite the solid Belgianesque, spicy aroma. It drinks with a musty, earthy moldiness that is somehow still pretty delicious ... a strange marriage of German wheatiness and Belgian yeastiness ... quite the blend. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 12, 2008 Thanks to Stine for sharing. Hazy yellow color with a large head. Strong aroma of Noble hops, grass and a little orange. Tons of citrus hops. A lot of wheat flavors and dry grass. The hops seem to be covering up the banana and clove flavors from the yeast. Good, but I think I like the Schneider version better.
