Commercial Description:
This Beer is served on DRAFT and in 750ml BROOKLYN bottles.
In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

Pleasant surprise at Brewgrass 2007. Poured a cloudy straw color with a thick off-white head. A ton of clove and citrus in the aroma with a complimentary hop aroma - not like a Houblon mind you, but this wasn’t the intent judging from the description. Pretty interesting taste. Light malt with classic clove and pepper taste, but citric hop on the finish. A very different direction than the hoppy belgians - and hopping a weizenbock seems less of a stretch than hopping a tripel/Belgian. Nonetheless, this was a distinct brew and one I had the dumb luck to run into.

Bottle shared by Springslicker. Poured a hazy yellow with a tall creamy white head that mostly lasted and had good lacing. Nice hoppy/floral aroma with a clove and orange backing. The flavor had clove, pepper, and banana with a hop and light alcohol background. Medium body, smooth. Very nice!

Bottle courtesy of DocLock, I think.

This one was a surprise delight. It pours an orange-tinged gold with a nice white head. Nice citrus-and-tropical fruit, tons of tropical fruit -- pineapple, banana, mango, oranges -- in the flavor. ("Rotten tropical fruit," my wife says. Well, maybe on the ripe side, sure. But it’s really nice in my opinion.) Very full flavors, strong and rich, plenty of esters, a strong citrus (Amarillo) flavor in the close. Slightly buttery, modestly sweet. Very drinkable even on a hot day, despite the ABV and powerful flavors. Nice beer!

750mL bottle, courtesy of artusory. Thanks, Ryan! Pours a hazy, honey-golden color; fizzy off-white head with solid retention and lacing. Loads of pine, vanilla and bready malts, bubble gum, and spice in the aroma; very generous nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: sticky bubble gum, complex yeast, bread, and Belgian sugar; chewy and bready, with a slightly piney character; less hop character than in the nose. Lengthy finish: esters, vanilla, and some pine. I enjoyed this, but preferred the Schneider version a bit more.

Pour was typical of a hefe, huge-mongo head, standard cloudy golden-yellow body. Aroma was floral perfumey, good hop and phenolic balance, bananas take a major back seat, but still there. Flavor follows suit, an enjoyable brew, although I’d like a simpler cleaner hefe on any given day of the Summer. Honestly, this was quite similar to the Schneider-brewed version, imo, not sure why it gets another entry just for location of brew. Ah well, all good.

Bottle. Poured gold with a nice white head. Aroma of citrus, spice, bready malt. Taste is similar with lots of citrus hop and light yeast, some spice. Finish is lightly bitter. Mouth is pretty well carbonated. Overall, a nice and refreshing brew.

2/26/2008: Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pours a cloudy golden color with a foarmy white head that has good retention. The flavor contains rye and is slightly fruity with hints of sourness, mint?, and green hops. Very interesting... Flavors include wheat, yeast, spice, and some warming alcohiol. It is a bit bitter, but balanced and somewhat dry like rye would imparct. It has some acidity as well. It is medium-bodied and feels soft in the mough. This beer is unique and a bit difficult to describe. Overall I like this particular beer better than the Schneider & Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse version.

Serving: Bottle shared with Tmoney99. Rating #323 for this beer.

Growler via trade with Degarth. Many thanks Joe, happy to try the Schneider bottled and now this draft only or growler too. Lost some carbonation in transit. Pours cloudy yellow orange with some bubbles for a head. Nose is intense beautifal banana hops, and some pineapple. Taste is hoppy and also wheaty and full of fruit salad fruit, banana and pineapple and all kinds of other things. Tasty and complex but feels a little messy like some flavors are battling with others. Overall tasty and different. Somehow neglected to mention the big spicy notes, clove is there and lots of other stuff. Mellows as you drink it, but still...
