Commercial Description:
This Beer is served on DRAFT and in 750ml BROOKLYN bottles.
In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

On tap at Halftime, Poughkeepsie, NY this past summer. Rating off notes and memory (I have a vivid recollection of this brew, I was obsessed!). Pours out a dirty gold / near orange with a huge fluffy white head. Your immediate vicinity explodes with clove, spices, banana, orange, and straw hay! Lacing is left all over the glass, and its time to taste this. Tastes of spicy cloves, banana; essentially Schneider’s yeast! Taste continues on to white peppercorn, fresh breads, orange and flowers from the fantastic hopping, and finishing almost whole wheat like with a small hoppy bite. Incredibly refreshing, signature Schneider, excellent brew.

Bottle at The Raleigh Times, Raleigh, NC. Beautiful cloudy amber golden sunset colour. Banana on the nose...corn, amber sappy pumpkin. Flavour...simply wow! This is something special. Toasted corn, more banana, light pumpkin pie, sunflower seed, slight citrus..orange peel. All of this and a head that goes on for eternity. Exceptional beer and maybe the best beer I tasted on my trip to the states.

Probably the best Hopfen-Weiss that Ive ever had. The combo Schneider/Brooklyn is unmatched for the floral and citrus tase to the yeast and makes this a very enjoyable beer, well done!

Pours a gorgeous cloudy golden yellow. Lots of beautiful foamy head. Really radiant, and yet so cloudy. Nearly flawless. Heavy scents of wheat and strong orange peel. Only a hint of banana. Sweet, but grounded by the thick yeast aroma. Very nice, esp for a hef. Not saccharine; balanced. A hoppy hef? This has the sweetness of the orange/banana on the hef part, but a final swallow of bitter grapefruit hops. The balance is an unusual welcome. Gorgeous hoppy aftertaste. Great for style. Thick and smooth, but a tad fizzy. Nice, bitter hop film. It’s smooth, but has a lot more than the average hef. Really nice hops. Smooth but substantial. A uniquely excellent brew.

On their own, Brooklyn Brewery and Schneider-Sohn out of Germany are both amazing breweries so the idea and reality of the two teaming up to create a collaboration brew is enough to make any beer geeks heart tremble in excitement and their mouths water. Of course, the truth is in the bread, liquid bread in this case, and of course the Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse does not disappoint.
After a pop of the cork, I poured my Hopfen-Weisse into my goblet and set to observing her seductive cloudy tangerine and orange depths. A thick head about 2 fingers thick sits pretty on top of the awaiting brew below, slowly slinking her way back into my glass. As she does so, delicate trails of brussels lace adorn the sides and a decent blanket lingers for the whole show. Her nose is orange, lots of freshly squeezed oranges followed by bitter grapefruit and lemon with a sour yeasty tang snapping at the end. A steady stream of bubbles screams their way to the top where they release an endless stream of tantalizing aromas. I go in for the first quaff, and then the second. True to the large majority of secondarily fermented beers, her body has an overall pleasantly light effervescence. Sour grapefruit and lemon grabs my tastebuds right off the bat and don’t let go. In the meanwhile, a more gentle and subtle array of soft chewy wheat and sweet orange mingle. Further on into my glass, a bit more piney hops and oils can be tasted amidst the grapefruit and lemon. Her palate softens a bit as she warms, and more of the bready wheat comes out to even the playing field. Overall, tart and yeasty, sweet and piney with a soft chewy finish.
Combining the American art form of bountiful hops and the German mastery of all things wheat, or weisse, the Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse is their amazing love-child. Born of passion and expertise, if only all children were as brilliantly well-behaved as this one. Simply amazing.

Bottle. Very nice to share this with my friend Matthew for his birthday! This beer is really beautiful. A hazy golden orange colour, the bottle fills two weizen glasses wonderfully with a huge, thick fluffy white head like yeasty bread dough on each. The aroma is fantastically complex and interesting. There’s some very fresh citrus, especially orange, banana, clove, plenty of yeastiness and a whole lot of fresh leafy hop aroma, juicy and equally citrusy. The mouthfeel is thick, unfiltered and medium to full, very drinkable with good carbonation for a warm day out in the backyard. The flavour is wonderful; there’s plenty of fresh grassy hops, grapefruit, orange, lemon, banana, clove, mango. The alcohol is very well masked. The banana really stays on the tongue after taking a sip. I would imagine that bottle refermentation helps keep it tasting as fresh as it does. Food pairing options for this could be interesting to experiment with.
