Mahogany with a light brown head. Aroma moderate malty (caramel, roasted, brown sugar, a note of smoke?), light hoppy. Light body. Delicious. drjay44 (757), Salida, Colorado, USA Oct 5, 2009 500 ml. bottle. Pours a medium off white head, which collapses to a thin layer, with moderate lacing, over a clear coppery (SRM 15) body.....nose of malts with some toffee, caramel, bit of cereal, minimal hop floral.....taste mild sweet malts to start, with rich grain flavors, finishing with mild lingering hop bitterness.....mouth feel is thick and chewy, carbonation makes for a creamy brew. This meets its style very well, and is quite good. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 8, 2009 Reddish black pour. Little caramel, nuttiness in the aroma. Light body with some caramel malt, some citrus. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 4, 2009 Pours brown amber. Smell is sour peatiness. Taste is awful, sourish, peaty and gross. Light carbonation and medium body. In short, awful beer.
shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Jul 27, 2009 1/30/2008: Broughton Black Douglas has a clear pecan brown appearance and a sharp aroma. The beer is creamy its flavors include cranberry and a strong maltiness. There seems to be plenty of hop flavor, but the beer really isn’t bitter. It just kind os falls off at theend. It has a medium-light body. I think that this beer could be better, but there is just something wierd about it...
1 pint .9 fl. oz. bottle. Rating #227 for this beer.
mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jun 23, 2009 Pours a clear ruby-brown with a lovely tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is very estery - fruity and yeasty and inviting. Taste is surprisingly bitter. Not bad! I was expecting something cloyingly sweet, as this bills itself as a traditional scottish ale on the bottle. Lightly toasted malt, lightly fruity, finishing on a nice bitter lightly roasted note. Thick and creamy with light carbonation. Not ungood! AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Jun 12, 2009 Deep ruby red color with a thick tan head. Nutty aroma with lightly sweet pale malts. Smooth medium body. Lightly sweet cracker malt flavors with a nicely bitter hop bite to finish. Bella storia
