Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Medium-bodied, with a subtle hop aroma, on the palate this luxurious beer has a deep, full flavour which balances a toasty maltiness, mild bitterness, and a hint of sweet herbs. It finishes clean and mostly dry, but with a faintly subtle sweetness.

Smells nice, caramel and alcohol. Taste is a little nutty/toasty and quite malty. Fades pretty quickly and is general pretty disappointing. Has a dry solid stout feeling, but just slightly, at the finish.

16.9 oz bottle best before Dec 05.
Dark reddish brown with a fat fluffy tan head and lots of sticky lace.
Aroma is sweet with some caramelized sugar/roasted marshmallow scents.
Flavor is toasty, caramel, slightly woody. Finish is clean and dry with a hint of smokiness.

Very sweet, fruity aroma with soapy, floral hops also apparent. Clear, deep brown body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, off white head that recedes very slowly to a lasting cover. Toasted malt flavour with some spicy, herbal hop character . Very dry, short flavour though nuttiness lasts in the aftertaste. Medium body with moderately lively carbonation. Pint glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (BB Aug-05, State Line Liquors, MD, Oct-05).

Bottled. Dark brown colour. Light-medium body. Notes of caramel with a subtle touch of hops and toffee. No obvious sweetness. Pretty dry, though fruity.

It is nice to look at, but I think all beers that aren’t mass-produced crap look good. I couldn’t get past some of the flavors though. The taste and smell of cloves and licorice ruined this beer for me.

Really Black, as the part of the name, but it was really a punch, I guess it would be a little hard to swallow at the end of the tasting session.

Bottle. White foamy head. A nice dark color with an aroma of beat and malt. A rather thin body but an overall good taste. Could be a little more bitter but a pretty good choice.

Bottle from Asda. Dark ruby with beige head. Aroma predominantly biscuity malt with some dried fruit and a little bit of orangey hop. Sweetish malty taste with roasty finish.
