| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 21, 2005 Dark brown color with a medium head. This was a lot more subdued than I was expecting: very weak malt aroma coupled with a weak bitter taste. Dry finish. Kinda boring. Papsoe (14996), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 17, 2005 Updated: Jul 3, 2005(Bottle 50 cl) Very dark, mahogany-red with a thick creamy, light-brownish head. Nice caramel in the nose lasting all the way through to the aroma. But a very dry caramel, the sweetness is very limited. The bitterness is much more pronounced - with the hops underlying all the way through. Lots of lovely fruity esters. Nice one. 030105 Magicdave6 (5501), London, Greater London, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2005 Strange Strange aroma, like a stable that makes bread, though the flavour is excellent, not as dark as i expected but a nice bitter chocolate taste, very easy going, defo one to have again.
Also a nice flavour of scotish history on the bottle, nice to see. drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 3, 2005 This was definitely a black ale upon pouring, although with minimal head and large carbonation. The malt here takes some wierd detours in and out of sweet and dank yeastiness, but never falls into the pattern of a typical Bitter. The malt has a kind of piney zing (but not similar to a hoppy pine flavor), there is a bready character, but I can’t shake the yeast here. This is definitely unique, even if not the best beer. I like this. It has a sort of bazarre quality I can’t quite place. SuIIy (1452), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 31, 2005 Caramel, very sweet, chocolate. Light, fizzy end bite. Some sourness in teh aftertaste. Dark amber color with light brown head. Brad (364), Berkley, Michigan, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 31, 2005 Dark amber in color with a one inch head, off white in color and diminished failry quickly. Aromas of malts, leather, nuts, and cellar mustiness. Very smooth tasting, flavor consisting of malt, toasted bread, hardly any hops. Sweetish dry finish. green (187), Boston, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 30, 2005 Temp. A truly beautiful beer, Dark amber with a silky, one finger high sustaining head. Aroma is mabey a bit peat-ish? Flavor is a quite dry and a reasonably complex, well balanced mix of mild hops and light, aromatic malts. Finishes with a touch of bitterness and lingering maltiness.
