Definitely porterish but with a distinctly aged character, smooth and slightly smoky. Like dark toffee with fruit and nuts in it. Good stuff. Magicdave6 (5552), London, Greater London, England

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 26, 2007 Encouragingly stouty deep ruby pour with well-retained beige suds. More than a sniff of bitter chocolate and sappy beechwood smokiness. Silky smoked malt roastiness and a hint of hop. Carries its ABV with smoothness and poise. Stirs dewy-eyed reminiscences of both Aecht Shlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen and Theakston Old Peculiar. And you can’t ask for more than that. HarryFlashman (469), Chatham, Kent, England

Dark brown, come black colour, described as a porter on the bottle (along with some old twaddle about some Scotch knights that’s probably all made up), but tasted more stouty to me. A touch malty and sweet, but quite a bit of bitter dryness with some carbonation, all of which I hence approve. Overall, pretty good and a pleasant surprise. cgarvieuk (4198), Edinburgh, Scotland
