Commercial Description:
Bottle, Regular
Robert Burns the legendary Scottish poet used his role as an Excise man as an inspiration for the rollicking song "the deil’s awa with the Exciseman" In the 19th Century it was the Excise men who had responsibility of applying tax to all beers and ales. The name 80/- derives from the duty rate stamped on the end of the casks. Exciseman’s 80/- was specially brewed to mark 25 Years of Brewing at Broughton Ales.A dark malty brew, full of the rich flavours typical of classic Scottish 80/- ales. Full drinking with a good hop aftertaste Just the sort of ale Burns would have savoured during his time as an officer of the Excise Major ingredients are:- Optic Pale Ale Malt, Black Malt, Crystal Malt Hops used are English grown Challenger, Fuggles and first Gold.

Bottled@Poirotti’s Skotoberfest 2007. Dark murky reddish brown colour with big beige creamy head. Aroma is sweet malts along with some berries and fruits in it. Flavour is quite sour and bitter compared to what the aroma promised, but in a quite nice balance.
