Bright fruitiness from a dark amber beer, with s sickly sweet finish and a sharp alcoholic note in the mid-palate that makes me and my friend think that this isn’t better for being 6.2% abv. Lovely malt fruit flavour. Bit of harsh nettle. Nice, but could be better, lacks intensity and a bit too nettley for me. JorisPPattyn (5192), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jan 30, 2007 Cask Deep amber-red; B.C."H.". Pencil or watercolourpaint aroma, some children’s sweet and state-of-the-art new materials for basketshoe soles... anything but natural. Again a horrible unnatural flavour - this is not normal. Again, the aroma fo modern chemical rubbers for sports shoes returns in the flavour, mixed with a bit of molasses. Ouch - there’s body, but I’m not sure I do want to know by WHAT. Ugh. I’ve had this beer WAY better before - what are they doing in Scotland. Or is it just this cask... in the White Horse of all places? MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 10, 2007 Any first impressions?
-A sturdy sheet of foam lazes atop the tawny-brown.
-Caramel, raisins, and berries rise to the occasion, and entice an excited first sip.
-Black grapes and caramel maltiness coalesce in the elegant flavor profile.
-A round, creamy mouthfeel knows how to please.
What if you dig deeper?
-Light vinosity garnishes the finish, playing off the malty sweetness very well.
-The fruity sweetness is complex, and deserves study.
-A seamless, smooth interplay of rich flavors is what I got in this cask of Old Jock; a very classy pint of old ale.
On cask at Tennent’s Bar, Glasgow.
