Brewed with oats but smells like licorice. Lightly smoked notes from the black malt, but never burned. Some underlying chocolatey sweetness. Quite light body and actually rather refreshing and quenching. 240104 Cornfield (4954), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2005 I bought this as Kinmount Willie Stout. I had read that it’s sold in the U.S. under this name because Willie is an ancestor of Neal Armstrong, and Broughton thought this would help to increase sales. Weird rationale. Who would know that here other than readers of books about beer? Anyways - This is a dandy, pouring a dark chocolate with reddish highlights and sporting a tall, light brown head. It’s got a very creamy, chocolatey aroma with traces of coffee coming through. Very smooth to drink, the roasted malts dominate the flavor, followed closely by the creamy chocolate. This has a mildly dry finish, and is another good beer for dunking cookies. If only they had named it after an ancestor of Buzz Aldrin... beerandrugby (210), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 12, 2005 bottle. poured a weak black with minimal head. Nice chocolate, and roasted barley flavor, not much on the hops side though...pretty nice, but pretty basic. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2005 Dark brown inthe glass with hints of ruby around the edges. 1/2 inch creamy brown head and lots of lace. Nice looking beer. Smells of chocolate and coffee
Very smoky flavors. Hints of milk, dark bitter chocolate and light coffee. Some metallic flavors finish it up as well. It is bitter and smoky but unbelieveably smooth, some qualities of a cream stout in here and the bitterness lingers on the palate. It won’t knock your socks off but it does everything well. A pretty good understated stout.

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Apr 16, 2005 Kinmount Willie stout label. Very dark black cherry in color with a massive cream-colored head that is only partially diminishing. Fruity coffee aroma, almost like a light raspberry, with butterscotch and cardboard rounding it out. Lightly bitter flavor with a touch of chocolate malts, though the flavor is mainly dominated by a moderate roastiness. Very thin bodied and lightly carbonated. Aftertaste is nearly non-existant. goldtwins (4083), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 27, 2005 Labeled Kinmount Willie. Poured a medium brown color with a golden outline. Aroma and flavor contained diacytel and paper. Underneath that was lightly roasted malt and some chocolate. Clean finish with a light to medium body. TheBeerGod (3163), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 17, 2005 Bottle. Labeled Kinmount Willie. Reddish brown with a medium frohty tan head. Nice lacing. Nose is sweet malts, light chocolate, wafts of caramel and light coffee. Taste has some light smoky notes mixed with cocoa, light caramel and sweet malts. Body is a bit thin and lightly carbonated. Lingering light bitterness and peaty notes. Finish brings out more light smoke, moments of caramel, sweet malts and light cocoa. Decent. BrockLanders (750), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Feb 26, 2005 Bottle labeled as Kinmount Willie. Pours a dark brow with a quickly dissipating medium tan head. Aroma is sweet, chocolate malts, some coffeeish tones...none are that prominent...had to struggle to find them. Taste is lightly sweet, some weak chocolate-ish flavor. Light watery body is probably what I remember most. Very unimpressive. Probably not something the Scots would want to be remembered for. It’s not skunk juice, but as far as oatmeal stouts go this one comes up wanting.
