Mild nose of dust and a little cherry vanilla, maybe some sweet oats in there as well. Moderately assertive attack; medium body, soft card, mild flavor. Tartly metallic through the mid palate and into the finish. Very little hop, if any. Light chocolate on the mid palate, and some coffee in the finish. Even my long-lost family connections to Scotland can’t make me love this beer, but it’s ok, and I’ll finish it. Poperinge (359), Cowtown, Alberta, Canada

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 5, 2007 Updated: Jan 29, 2007Bottle at Rustico: Pours a deep cloudy dark brown color. Head is medium, off-white and diminishes fast. It leaves a fair lacing.
Aroma is malty, of dark fruits, plums, prunes, dates, rasins. It has strong licorice notes too and a hint of truffles.
Flavor is sweet, highly fruity of dark, dry fruits. Bitterness is low but present. A little watery and shy for an Oatmeal Stout. Still good.
Body is medium, a little dry finish. Texture is oily. Medium carbonation. Low alcoholic presence. Very decent but I was hoping for more. albert007 (412), Penobsquis, New Brunswick, Canada

Subdued smoky aroma with mild chocolatey notes. Beer is smooth drinking and has hints of chocolate bitterness. Decent stout. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 18, 2006 500 ml bottle. Dark ruby colour with a mostly diminishing frothy off-white head. Coffee, caramel, and fruity aroma. Flavour is predominantly fruity with some light roasty coffee and caramel accompaniment. Light to medium bodied, fizzy mouthfeel. Along the lines of Belhaven McCallum Stout, I’d peg this as more a "Scottish Dark Mild" than a stout. PilsnerPeter (2653), Flushing, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 6, 2006 Pours black with an initially large tan head which fades to nothing. Fairly hearty aroma of chocolate syrup, oats, burnt plastic hint, and hickory meat rub. Thin body, which ruins even decent stouts. This stout has a strange, almost tart upfront flavor, and is thin on the tongue and palate. Light watery chocolate syrup middle. Somewhat papery aspect. But the aftertaste is smooth, oatey, coffeeish and has a roasted chocolate character. The after taste is the only reason this beer even gets a six in flavor. Too bad it’s not fuller in body; especially in the early flavor scale. jerc (3954), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 1, 2006 Bottle from Premier in Halifax. Dark brown/black body with a moderate khaki head. (3+) Muted toasty malt and very mild roast in the aroma. Flavour is quite mild and muted with touches of roast and sweet malt. Average palate is thin for a stout. jazz88 (2238), San Francisco, California, USA
