Pours a dark brown reddish pour with a beige head. Smell is very bourbony and smooth fruitiness. Taste is mostly dark fruit and bourbon and much more barley wine like than Imperial Stout or even a regular stout. Not much if any roastiness, but the flavor isn’t bad. Medium to thin body for the style. Decent, overall. Rynoplasty (536), Louisville, Kentucky, USA

Aroma is roasted malts and what also smells like lactose. Taste is roasty and slightly sour, I remember having this before and it being much better. I think this bottle is bad. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 22, 2008 This poured black in color with a thick beige head. Aromas were of bourbon, wax, citrus and chocolate. In the mouth it was medium-bodied and showed an odd sweet-and-sour aspect. This was of medium density and smooth but a bit odd overall. jstraw (769), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 23, 2008 Black with decent, creamy tan head / Milk chocolate, wine, and oak nose / Medium body, a little thin but creamy, with bigger malts offset by touch of hops on the moderately dry finish / Sweet, simple bourbon flavors dominate good notes of semi-sweet chocolate, roast coffee, oak, and vanilla. Odd, slightly rancid note? Flavors don’t quite come together. / A little ungainly, but still a good brew. HonkeyBra (1345), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 24, 2008 Big foamy pour of a thin black liquid. Weak yeast aroma, strong taste of cheap bourbon. It kind of hits you in the face. Some vanilla and oak in there as well, but its way to forward. Thin mouthfeel. Kind of gross, not sure if I’m going to finish the bottle. 502Flavors (621), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 3, 2008 Bomber into sniffer. It had a light (brown) pour for an imply but looked nice in the glass with a nearly black body and a substantial creamy cappuccino head. Its aroma was rich and included primarily notes of vanilla, oak, and sweet chocolate. The flavor was pretty weak however and out of balance; some good flavors were floating around in there (bourbon, vanilla, and molasses) but were very faint, undeveloped, and watered down. It was too watery and carbonated on the palate for an impy, but still pretty smooth and pleasant. Overall: if your at Brownings’ brewpub you might as well try this because it will be fresh, but otherwise, it isn’t anything I would really buy again if looking for an impy. esjaygee (1531), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | May 25, 2008 On tap at Brownings brew pub. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of bourbon and light vanilla. Taste of bourbon (yuck) which is too overpowering to go with some light sweet malts. Smooth with little to no bitterness. I can’t stand it when my beer tastes solely like liquor. Maybe someday they’ll make a whiskey that tastes like a stout. Cletus (5057), Connecticut, USA
