| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | May 28, 2007 Dark amber pour with lilac hues. A thin white head recedes quickly and fully. Aromas of sour fruits, caramel, mild molasses, light orangey hops and acetyldehyde. Alcohol is far too intense, scalding hot against the back of my nose and throat. The flavor is far refined. More fruit and alcohol, little malt and less hops than in the nose. Very cloying, moderately acidic and mostly sad. The finish is medium sweet and modest in length, very fruity as well - this is not fresh, vibrant fruit either. Mouthfeel is watery for the style, light-medium overall. It’s smooth, mostly due to a lack of body and bitterness. Not very good at all. Ibrew2or3 (2761), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA

It pours a hazy red-amber with thin off white head. Nice looking barleywine. How about the nose. Well the aroma is on the light side with hints of dark fruit and sweet caramelized malts. The taste is very much hard fruit candy soaked in alcohol. Wow, lots of cherry and sweet raspberry candy flavors. Rounding out the candy fruitiness is sweet caramelized malts. Into the finish there is more candy fruitiness that would become overwhelming if I was drinking the whole 22oz bomber myself. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours a lovely plum color, small off white head. Looks like a barley wine should. Aromas of sweet candied fruits, brown sugar, molasses, diacetyl. Flavor is more of the same, with the sweetness coming through the most. Sticky, cloying mouthfeel. FInish is medium length. Didn’t seem at all like 11%. Nice beer, I liked it quite a bit more than their Imp Stout. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA

Not a very strong aroma--mostly light malt and a very faint dose of hops. Golden brown body. Medium palate. Hoppy up front and light tasting. I would never have guessed this at 11%, and I’m not sure I’m buying it at all. bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 13, 2007 Bottle. I’ve had this on draft before, but bottled is a whole new experience. Dark amber with a full off white head. The aroma is very malty, with dark fruits, and a bit of alcohol. The flavor is malt heaven. Very sweet even at a young age, with a ton of malts. The Shag bark syrup gives it a great boost. I can’t wait to age these a while and see how they change.
