fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Sep 28, 2009 Bottle at Monk’s Café, Wallingatan Hazy red amber color; huge head. The aroma is actually much lighter than expected, with earthy English hops. Medium body, toffee flavor, dry also because of the strong bitterness; the hops are aggressive (but appreciated), oily and resiny. Strong ending bitterness. It’s a fair variation from the fruity IIPA. omhper (12147), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 1, 2009 Bottled at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Cloudy amber, creamy but faint head. Citric nose. Piney, almost inky hops assault the nose. Syrupy, fairly light body ollapses into a resiny mess. A very primitive beers, where the attempts of hiding the severe shortcomings in the malt departments by adding more hopre just makes it hars and badly inky. Rynoplasty (500), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Aug 31, 2009 Pours copper with a thin off white head. Aroma is citrus and tropical fruit. Flavor is citrusy grapefruit hop with a nice malt base to go with it and a nice bitter finish. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 31, 2009 Bottled at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Pours out in a foggy reddish amber colour with a small white foam. Sweaty and a bit sugary malts of peaches and over-riped raspberries with strong notes of inky grapruity notes in the aroma. Medium- to full-bodied with notes of candied peaches, resin, caramelized sugar and grapefruit. No malt structure to mention. Long simplistic bittersweet finish of caramel and peaches with notes of grass and inky grapefruit. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jul 24, 2009 Bottle. Opaque copper pour with a medium beige head. Aroma of celery, grassy hops and malt. Orangy hop flavor with a touch of malt before a lasting bitter finish. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Jul 21, 2009 7/18/2009: She Devil has an aroma that reminds me of malt extract concentrate The flavor mostly contains caramelized malt with some earhty hops and mild bitterness sprinkled throughout. This beer is deep amber in color and has a dense ivory-colored head. Regardless of the alcohol content, I don’t consider this beer to be anywhere close being considered a Double IPA or maybe even a regular IPA. The hops and accompanying bitterness just aren’t there for the style.
Draught sample(s) at the 14th Annual Indiana Microbrewers Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rating #42 for this beer.
allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jul 15, 2009 On draught at Flanagan’s Ale House, Louisville. Cloudy copper pour, thin tan head. Not much nose (too cold). Matly, caramel and toffee flavor. Finish was overly bitter, alomst astringent. Stylistically, I’d have guessed American String Ale, not Double IPA. Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jul 6, 2009 On tap at the brewery. Dark amber color. Pine/citrus hop aroma. Minor crystal/caramel aroma. Taste is bitter, oily American hops. Not overly bitter and fairly tasty. Makes for a pretty average IPA...defintiely no double IPA. The hops are not anywhere near that level, even fresh.
