VikingHammer (362), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA Jan 18, 2007 Poured an Orange red amber, Off White head, Aroma was nothing special, Very Bitter, I may not be the best judge tried it after two tripels. Didn’t finish very well. Wouldn’t buy again. DruncanVeasey (2690), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Jan 17, 2007 Updated: Jan 25, 2007Lagery gold pour. Intensely sweet malty-hoppy nose developing some gueuzish vinegar as it warms. In fact, it smells exactly like gueuze. But flavour-wise, crisply hoppy with a nicely rounded bready maltiness in the finish. Pleasantly metallic. Somewhere between a very sweet malty lager and a hoppy straw ale. Tasty and refreshing. DarkStar22769 (100), Ontario, Canada Dec 17, 2006 Bring on the exploding foam. 330ml from the annual LCBO gift pack. It was a head that would not quit. There were not very many redeeming qualities about this beer. I don’t think it travels well. The metallic taste that finished the maltness wasn’t up my alley. My caveat to this rate is that I think this would be a different creature if it were actually consumed in Belgium. I love the label though. raymondwave (867), Finland Dec 9, 2006 Stale nose, doesn’t really give much when cold on trappist glass. Taste is very buttery and malty. Kinda hard to make an opinion of. Mouth feel is creamy and nice with smooth carbonation, but doesn’t leave much aftertaste. A little funky overall. The creamy butter is all that I can really put my finger on. Boutip (2334), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Dec 6, 2006 Bottle: Poured a clear light amber color ale with a big foamy head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet malt is a bit overpowering with too much sugar. Taste is also exceedingly sweet with no yeast characteristic and a light body that doesn’t really hold up very well. I also didn’t notice any bitterness as mentioned in the description. Definitely not something that I would seek again. probstk (1007), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Dec 1, 2006 330 mL bottle in gift pack from LCBO. App.: pours cloudy, orangey-amber with a substantial orangey-tan head. Aroma: sour (vinegar) and apples. I tasted it and it’s off for sure. Not going any further. french tickler (642), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Nov 22, 2006 Drank in a tulip. Nice head, red / brown hazy poor. Aromas of an old basement, oranges, old oak... these aromas reminds me a little of the Duchesse de Brougogne but not as potent. Very floral hoppy aroma with added apples and raspberries. Flavors of wood a little sweet caramel and coriander. Bitter rubarb feel. Missing a little alcohol, creamy finish, well balanced. Very good overall. TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Nov 19, 2006 330 mL bottle from LCBO gift pack. Amber-orange in colour, with thick foamy head. Strong aroma of cinnamon-sugar and alcohol. Doesn’t taste how it smells, until the very end. Taste is sweet, with a definite lemony thing going on. Weird.
