Mumpu (46), USA Jan 30, 2006 Typical abbey ale -- moderate malts, restrained hops, faint spices and honey, thin body, rather dry. For a Belgian ale, I would have preferred more prominent spices. Pleasant conversation beer but not spectacular. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 14, 2006 Pours a clear medium orange gold with a miniscule amount of white head. Aroma is extremely sweet of caramel and butterscotch. Flavor is sweet, but then a bitter dry finish. Overall, very very lousy beer for the price. eve (240), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 5, 2006 Honey-red pour, strong aroma of butterscotch and dried apricots, heavily malty with honey and caramel, faint hop flavor. Unusual for an amber, even a Belgian--the butterscotch was almost overwhelming, to me. cbrixius (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2006 Though I am not familiar with too many Belgians, my guess is this beer is about as average as they come. Nothing to write home about. It poured a clear amber with an inch of amber foam. Easy drinking and it may qualify as a good session beer. blankboy (3157), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 3, 2006 Bottle. Pours a clear bubbly orange-amber with a large lasting fizzy white head. Nice lacing. Sweet aroma of yeast, fruit, caramel malt, spices and a mild sourness. Flavour follows the aroma and surprises with a nice mild bitter finish. Fizzy and dry, it goes down smooth. Thin bodied. Pretty good. FKI (1), Riverbank, California, USA does not count Dec 29, 2005 Nice toasty caramel malt notes in the nose, soft esters in the background invite you to take a taste, unfortunately the wet cardboard/paper notes scream of oxidation and a sharp tart off-flavors are reminescent of spoilage. I would like to taste this again as it showed promise as being a enjoyable belgian and if a fresher sample came way it would probably deem a higher rating. Sregnar35 (729), Rotterdam, New York, USA Dec 29, 2005 Updated: Mar 26, 2006Below average beer, especially for a belgian. Aroma was salty, like a sweaty ice rink. Color was nice murky red. Flavor was stale honey and malt, with little hops. MarkoR (224), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 21, 2005 Very nice aroma of spices. Hint of honey in the taste. Thin head, amber colour. Smooth drinking. Not bad.
