Nice flavor, a bit sour and bitter, nice fruity undertone. Quite perfumed. Flavor dies off at the end. shotgun1431 (92), franklin furnace, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 10, 2004 This is a fine looking beer. Dark red with a lite tan head that just keeps on growing! The aroma is bitter and sweet. This beer bubbles like a bottle of champane. I didn't like the first taste I had of this stuff but the second and third were much better. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Apr 2, 2004 Nice dark brown color, but a little excessive on the head. Aroma is heavy on the yeast, and some of and some leafy notes. The flavor isnt that up to par. More of a bite than needed, and less of a full flavor than wanted. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 21, 2004 Pours reddish brown with a tall foamy tan head. This is VERY carbonated. Nose has some sugary notes along with some light spices and a flowery hint. The taste is thinner than the aroma would suggest. Some very faint spice and sugar hints as it leans towards a floral taste. Almost tasteless finish. Average to below average Belgian ale. desurfer (1067), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 20, 2004 Golden amber body, huge tan head. Aroma is very interesting; woody/roasty with some sweetness as well. Unfortunately, the flavor is extremely watery and bland, some carbonated bite and a lingering malty finish. Too bad. dhlesq (233), Thousand Oaks, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 16, 2004 Initial toasty aroma, almost like roasted peanut shells, followed by aromas of darkened caramel. Appears with a mellow, bronze hue, with notable lasting effervescence. Thick foamy, lingering head, typical of belgian ales. Mild flavor that is somewhat bitter on finish, with an almost alkaline taste that is not altogether pleasant. Good body with an overly slick mouthfeel and the overcarbonation that is also typical with belgian ales. Overall good presentation, but somewhat ruined by the taste. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2004 Updated: Feb 17, 2009I have had this beer a couple of times with mixed results. This rating was for one of the better bottles. Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer pours a hazy reddish amber color with a large tan head that lingers. There is a mild sweet and sour scent. The beer is heavily carbonated - which is something I do not really care for. The aroma was sweetish with notes of apple and pear. The flavor is mildly sweet and had notes of pear and apple with a peppery and yeasty undertone. The finish was medium length and the body slightly to the thick side of medium. This is a decent beer. The comment that came up at the table was that this was a beer you could easily drink all night, but that would not inspire you to really seek it out. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
