Commercial Description:
Bruegel is an easy drinking soft and tasty amber ale. Thanks to the refermentation it offers more body, more head and more taste than most other American and Belgian Amber ales. It is brewed with Dutch barley and German hops. Although the bitterness is clearly present, it is not dominant.

Cloudy brown orange color with frothy white tenacious head that just does not dissapate at all. Aroma is sweet, subtle fruit notes, some candi sugar, faint caramel. Flavor is slightly sweet, malty, with a dry, slightly bitter finish, with a very faint metallic-like aftertaste. It’s a good brew . . . in no way is it excellent, but it’s good.

Smells nice, looks like an hazy amber wheat beer, and it's neither too bitter nor too sweet. That's where the non-suckiness ends. Over-carbonated and watery, and short on actual flavour. If you're into champagne (I'm not) you might like this sort of thing, but I like my Belgians with some balls.

Another stumpy unattractive little bottle. I’m glad I am given this to try in a glass, because I wouldn’t want to be seen drinking out of this bottle. It looks like a beer bottle for babies or something. Weird. Anyhow...very large think head tastes more like a mix between an amber ale and a Belgian white - but not as good as a white. It’s like it is striving to be as good as a white - but it doesn’t quite make it. Slight fruitiness.

11.2 fl oz bottle from a variety 6-pack obtained at Florian’s in Auburn. Smells like butterscotch and band-aids... uh-oh... Somewhat murky yellow-red body with almost no head to speak of. Un-pleasantly astringent... Tastes like bad citrus mixed with diacetyl, or like cat urine smells. I must have a bad bottle... too bad too, since it’s probably the only bottle I’ll ever have. The first Belgian I’ve ever had to pour out... :(

Amber colored beer with a medium bright white head. Not much carbonation for a Belgian. Strong caramel smell, almost like a Rolo with the chocolate sucked off. Goes down far too easy with the lack of carbonation. Flavor is very sweet with a huge caramel taste and some hop flavor and bitterness, but predominantly sweet.

Tasted in Toronto from LCBO. Rust, orange colour, large cumulous head - sustained well in the glass. Very light aroma / scent. Very difficult to tell - hmmm possibly some spice and malt. Little or no hop balance. Slight 'soapy' scent. Taste is very spicy and well hopped. Interesting I couldn't pick this up in the scent - slight bitter finish, clean.

Pours obviously an amber colour, with a small beige head. The aroma is of caramalts, dried apricot, lots of sweet malts and other fruits as well. It actually smells really nice, like how an actual amber ale would/should. Tastes, odd, not bad, but it doesn’t make me say wow. It tastes like everything I listed above, with a bit of yeast, and a slightly hoppy/ metallic finish. Sweet, malty aftertaste. Unlike any other Belgian beer I’ve ever come across before, it’s sort of a blend of a Wit with an amber ale. The result is pleasant enough. Decent beer. It gets some bonus point for the neat-looking illustration on the bottle label.

Pours light amber with a large white head. Dark malt and dark fruit aroma. Not bad, but not special. The flavor begins sweet, then turns somewhat sour. There is a slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Drinkable--even pleasant--but not re-drinkable.
