Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Nov 1, 2008 Draft in snifter at brewpub. Poured hazy black color with an average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malty, earthy and small alcohol aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium spicy sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Complex drinkable brew. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 7, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Draught @ Brugge. An impressive dark belgian ale that you’d never suspect comes from Indiana.
I like:
Superb appearance: a dark brownish copper with a large belgianesque off-white head that screams authenticity and quality. Interesting yeast strain produces plenty of esters and lots of spicy hints. Dark maltiness produces chocolatey nuances that feel trappist-like. Hard water makes it mineral and fitting. Broad fruit array covered including the likes of pears, yellow apples. Well-attenuated and actually quite dry. Superb palate with active, sincere carbonation.
I dislike:
Apple hints in the nose feel undesirable among the rest. Chalky notions mine the finish. This rarely happens with Belgians, but this one actually felt much bigger than 7%. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Oct 5, 2008 Draft @ the brewpub. Clear mahogany with a tight tan head. Big yeasty, earthy sweet rootbeer spice aromas reminds me of Rochefort 10. Medium body. A good flavor mirrors aroma with sweet dark malts, and earthy spices and yeast that is spot on Belg. Dubble. damn, wish they’d bottle this beer. Very good. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 27, 2005 This draft brew from the brewery poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized mostly diminishing white colored bubbles that left behind an unnoted lacing. The body contained soft carbonation, was hazy and light brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of very mild vinous malt malty dirty sock. Its mouth feel is initially tingly smooth crisp with a lingering mellow palate and a aftertaste. Its flavor contained mild thin malt hop notes. A very average brew. jahughey (65), Franklin, Indiana, USA Sep 15, 2005 Updated: Oct 9, 2005 Truly superb brewpub ale. Phenolic Belgian yeast aroma and flavor. Chocolate, raisin, vinous notes. Full mouthfeel, yet typical Belgian drinkability for the ABV. Great ale from a great brewer. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Jun 25, 2005 Draft at Brugge Brasserie. Poured a small white head that mostly diminished, sparse lacing, fine-small sized bubbles, no visible carbonation, and hazy. Aroma was malty and sweet. The flavor was malty, sweet and somewhat dry. The mouthfeel was sweet, thin and dry. Light body.
