| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 3, 2009 750ml bottle: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany brown with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of dry roasty dark malt, some Belgain yeast and an interesting sesame character. Starts with average fullness and some fizzy carbonation with a touch of grainy doughy malty sweetness and some earthy bitterness before a drier, toasty biscuity finish with a touch of milk chocolate. A pretty interesting and true to style dark Belgian ale. Could use a little more body and sweetness though. kramer (2488), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 18, 2009 25 oz bottle, via trade. Pours a flat black body with a rather large fizzy brown head that took a good long time to settle down. The nose is heavy on the roast which is nice, but there’s also this weird almost lactic like sour tinge that doesn’t work too well. Some dark fruits and molasses sugary sweetness. The flavor showcases that weird lactose like sour tinge even heavier than the nose. Nicely roasty with a lot of residual sweetness and some coffee, it’s almost like a Belgian Stout. Mouthfeel was medium bodied with way too much fizzy active carbonation. Overall, I can’t say that I was really digging this one. TampaBrew (867), Tampa, Florida, USA
