MartinT (4307), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 4, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Fiery hops spurt earthy and resinous flames to attempt to blind the tastebuds from an intrinsic diacetyl mess. The round biscuity caramel maltiness and potent hop flavors and bitterness of this Double IPA just could not overcome this rampant butter bomb.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the misty orange.
-Prickly carbonation enlightens the heavy body.
-Hop bitterness is resinous and peppery.
-The body is portly and chewy. The beer’s best feature for me that day.
-Alcohol is well hidden within the hoppy fireworks.
On tap at the Mondial de la Bière. Lubiere (3184), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jan 9, 2006 Amber ale with a thin big bubbled white head. Musky malt with light hopey notes in aroma. Lightly butterscotch malt with clover grass hops, very big in mouth, with a smooth finish. Nice oily mouthfeel with light metallic notes. On tap, late summer 2005. beerbuzzmontreal (2697), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 2, 2005 Pours a slightly cloudy copper color with a thin and creamy white head, a close inspection shows only a few bubbles going up. Very good aroma of citrusy and earthy hops, it’s more on the citrus side than earthy though, the aroma reveals also subtle but present grain and caramel. The flavor is pretty intense becaude of the bittering hops, the citrusy hops, earthy hops, grain and caramel are there with subtlety and celebrate the joy of penetrating my intimity. After a couple sips the bittering hops seems less intense. The body has a good medium thickness and an oily texture, the carbonation is low. This is a well balanced Imperial IPA, I’m used to more intense examples of the style but it’s still a good enjoyment.
