Commercial Description:
Named after Frank Appleton, this is perhaps our most delightful balance of full-bodied maltiness and aromatic hoppiness! It has been said to rival the best of England's brown ales, and has certainly become a local favourite.

Bottle. Dark brown body, with a small off white head. Mildly spicey nutmeg/nutty aroma. Sweet malt with nutty notes, flavour has just enough bitter hops to to make it interesting. Average palate. Pleasant but unexceptional.

(Draught) Headless with a deep red-brown body. Nose is mildly medicinal with malt undertones and alcohol. Flavour is flat. Concentration of water backed by mild malt. Unbalanced, uni-dimensional and watery.

Bottle (650ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc, mabel & tupalev -- courtesy of GregClow. Pours a hazy orange-copper with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, nuts, some fruit and faint hops. Flavour’s a bit watery, malty, a bit nutty and with a light bitter finish. Average bodied. Nothing special but nothing bad either, I enjoyed it.

[1227-20080328] 650mL bottle. Fresh green leafy hops aroma has a hint of anise and sweet caramel. Clear, dark red amber brown body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. "Soft" woody plank and light floral flavour with a mild sour background. Medium body, mild oldness. Surprisingly nice and mellow.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, GregClow, Blankboy, Mabel, and Jerc, courtesy of Greg. Dark brown, small off white head. Mild sweet malt aroma. Good taste - malty, sweet, dry - good medium body. A solid brown ale, despite us consuming it 3 months past its best before date.
