Dark orange, which is a light color for the style. Maple and coriander nose, simple scent really. Good body, rich but still a bit thin. Roasted nuts (almonds, peanuts, sunflower seeds), maple flavors, surprisingly good. More of a scotch/brown ale hybrid in my mind. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 8, 2009 Aroma suggests pears, brown sugar and toasted malts with a floral undertone. Hazy amber-brown body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled tan head that recedes to a relatively well-lasting cover with some nice lacing. Sweetness up front is joined by a quick hit of dark malts and light offsetting bitterness. Caramel lingers in the aftertaste. Medium full body with wonderful soft-bubbled carbonation. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in Apr-09. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Jul 6, 2008 Brown with a thin white head. Aroma is heavy caramel, toffee and malt. Taste is caramel, light mettalic, very light background hoppiness. Caramel is very present. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 8, 2006 Bottle. Dark brown body, with a small off white head. Mildly spicey nutmeg/nutty aroma. Sweet malt with nutty notes, flavour has just enough bitter hops to to make it interesting. Average palate. Pleasant but unexceptional. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Jan 8, 2006 650 ml bottle. Brown amber colour with a mostly diminishing creamy tan head. Chocolate, light cinnamon, light caramel aroma. Chocolate, caramel, light cinnamon flavours. Light to medium bodied. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 9, 2008 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, jerc, mabel & tupalev - my bottle. Ruby-brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of roasty malt with a bit of fruit and caramel, some tobacco - a little stale, but still nice. Medium bodied. Flavour of sweet roast malt with a mild nuttiness and a quick, nicely hopped finish. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 30, 2008 Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, GregClow, Blankboy, Mabel, and Jerc, courtesy of Greg. Dark brown, small off white head. Mild sweet malt aroma. Good taste - malty, sweet, dry - good medium body. A solid brown ale, despite us consuming it 3 months past its best before date.
