Commercial Description:
Named after Frank Appleton, this is perhaps our most delightful balance of full-bodied maltiness and aromatic hoppiness! It has been said to rival the best of England's brown ales, and has certainly become a local favourite.

Deep amber brown pour, aromas of caramel, nuts, and mashed berries. soft caramel body, sweet cooked berry fruit with a hint of smoke (corkboard). Rather thin mouthfeel, but overall a nice brown.

Bottle (650ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc, mabel & tupalev -- courtesy of GregClow. Pours a hazy orange-copper with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, nuts, some fruit and faint hops. Flavour’s a bit watery, malty, a bit nutty and with a light bitter finish. Average bodied. Nothing special but nothing bad either, I enjoyed it.

Draught at the brewpub, hand pulled
Brown-amber color. It has some caramel aroma and a mixed caramel-roasted malt flavor, with a medium dry mouthfeel. Straightforward beer, but quite good.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, mabel and tupalev - my bottle via trade with puzzl. (best before December 07). Clear mahogany pour, smallish off-white head. Grain, light roast, mild dry hops. Somewhat syrupy taste, but grainy and lightly herbal - perhaps a tad dry. Light body, mildly astringent and quick-finishing - pretty decent - thanks, Greg.

[1227-20080328] 650mL bottle. Fresh green leafy hops aroma has a hint of anise and sweet caramel. Clear, dark red amber brown body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. "Soft" woody plank and light floral flavour with a mild sour background. Medium body, mild oldness. Surprisingly nice and mellow.

Brown amber colored and having a nice mellow nut brown aroma with a touch of malt. I could not detect the malts advertised in the commercial description. This beer has light carmel overtones and a bit of a nutty taste. Furthermore, it is so smooth as seem to virtually lack any carbonation--a detracting point for me--but no doubt one that has made it local favorite.

Hazy dark brown colour. Straightforward malty/hazelnutty aroma. Strange body - both full and thin, like you’d find in a nitro beer, but this was a firkin. I guess both have low carbo. No worries though, I’ll be at the brewery next month. The flavour is mainly about carastany malts and a light nuttiness. Doesn’t appear anything wrong with the beer, but a standard brown ale is just so uninspiring for me.
