tiggmtl (4155), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 23, 2008 (Buckerfield’s Berry Ale - Strong Fruit Ale): Aroma is pleasantly tart and full of berries. Underlying doughy, sweet malt character is notable. Clear amber-copper coloured body is topped by a fizzy off white, large bubbled head that recedes very rapidly to a slight ring. Toasty and lightly grainy and sweet malt flavour underscores the tart berry flavours. Tastes almost like a fruity ginger ale and the dry medium-light body and strong fizzy carbonation reinforce that impression. Tulip glass. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle (BB Nov-Wk 4-08, Brewey Creek, Apr-08).
DuffMan (1883), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jul 19, 2008 Deep red-orange. Natural mashed raspberry and cherry aroma. Generously malty backbone with a nice balanced natural fruit character-- juicy, and not candyish in any way. The booze is very well hidden in this. Really great actually! Enniskillen (1525), Port Angeles, Washington, USA Jul 6, 2008 Amber with an off white head. Aroma is light blackberry, malt, and caramel. Taste seems to be mainly blackberry, and boysenberry rather then raspberry, also has a caramel note but definantly some candy like fruitiness. mabel (1246), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 26, 2008 [1070-20080201] 650mL (c/o GregClow, w/ him, blankboy, jerc, mds; called "Berry Ale"). Berry sweet alcohol aroma. Clear, red amber body wih a long-lasting creamy white head. Flavour is sweet grainy leaf berries and an afterbreath of strawberry plant. Medium body is a little thin. Interesting berriness but something seems missing. blankboy (2487), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 12, 2008 Bottle (22oz) shared with jerc, mabel, GregClow & mds -- courtesy of GregClow. Labelled ’Berry Ale’. Pours a clear ruby-orange with an average size diminishing off-white head. Nice tart berry aroma with some light malt, light hops and spices. Slightly watery flavour with sweet malt, mild berry tartness and a short finish. Alcohol’s totally hidden. Average to medium bodied. A pretty decent Fruit beer.
