Classic big hoppy nose. Flavor is equal to the challenge set by the aroma plus an adequate malt presence. Full bodied...very tasty. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

love those Centennial hops. pours a hazy, copper colored amber with an off white foamy head. solid in every way from the aroma, malt backbone and hop bite, medium to full body as well. really enjoyed this one! Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 24, 2006 Pours a darkish copper with a tan head. Smells of citrus, straw, strawberries, some caramel and some metallic notes. Tastes chewy and peppery with nice fruity elements. Smells much better than it tastes as the flavor is somewhat one dimensional. Finish is of light alcohol apparancy which is strange for a beer that is only 7.9%. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 19, 2006 Cloudy, burnt-orange body, barely a head at all. The aroma is heavy on the hops, and somewhat metallic. Very sweet with candied fruits and slightly spicy. The flavor is very tart and doesn’t reflect any of the sweetness in the aroma. Astringent too, with an alcohol burn I didn’t expect from this relatively low amount. Definetly not a good example of the style. notalush (2690), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 19, 2006 Pours a cloudy strawberry blonde color, with very minimal lace - flat, bland aroma, with faint grapefruit, biscuit and a phenolic/alcohol smell - nearly no carbonation in the mouthfeel - my second oxidized beer of the evening (lucky me) - flavor is mostly watery, with orange sweetness and an eventual hop character that adds an unpleasant metallic bitterness - I guess this stuff really needs to be consumed fresh - thanks anyway OhioDad =). | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 16, 2006 Definitely agreed with the citrus element here. Brew is dark straw unfiltered and appetizing. Head is thin and wispy. Grapefruit is the dominant fruit smell here with some musty honey sweetness. There is a good malt presence in the middle and an agressive hop bitter finish. I thought much better than the Hippie IPA. clingman71 (261), Centerville, Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2006 Updated: Feb 25, 2008There are piney IPAs and citrusy IPAs. I love them both. This leans citrusy to me, I have read piney in some of the other reviews but I just don’t taste/smell that. I think of Great Divide Titan when speaking of piney IPAs. When it comes to the citrusy IPAs, ’76 is hard to beat. I consider Boulder Mojo to be my favorite of these IPAs, but it is not as big as the ’76. It drinks as almost a hybrid of an IPA and a Doulble/Imperial IPA. Buckeye ’76 has enough malt to support the hops without being malty, very solid hop flavor while not being overly dry, all the while submerging you in hop aroma bliss. I have had this in bottle and on draft. It is, of course, better on draft, but is very good bottled so long as it is fresh. I seem to find this with most beers however, especially IPAs. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 15, 2006 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. The last beer of a tasting full of mediocre beers. Pours a cloudy dark orange with a small creamy white head. Wonderful aroma of fresh juicy hops, quite fruity as well with some oranges and lemon, balanced just right with some malt. Flavour is very hoppy and downright delicious. Lots of juicy citrus hops, some pine, fruit and again perfectly balanced with just the right amount of malt -- just awesome. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. A truly wonderful IPA and a great way to end the tasting.
