Beerman6686 (1266), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 5, 2009 This poured a dark red color with an off white head. Aroma was very malty, some spices as well and a big punch of booze. Flavor is thick and mlaty but nothing sticks out much except thwe booze., a bit of disappointing here. cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Feb 24, 2009 Enjoyed this well into my stay at the Winter Warmer Festival. Clear amber color with a 1/2" thick head and spotty lacing. Sturdy and sweet with a good bitter kick. The aroma is fairly straightforward providing ample hoppy citrus and grainy bread scents. Baked rolls, toffee, and bran flavors washed out by a calm wave of citrus and pine. A mighty fine drink for a snowy day. MikeF (528), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Mar 10, 2004 Rich reddish brown color. Little head. Very full bodied with a pleasant malt/hop balance. Alcohol content well hidden in the flavor. Although this brew teeters on the sweet side, it finishes cleanly with a moderate hop finish. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Feb 25, 2004 Hazy brown w/a lasting beige head. Strong citrusy hop aroma w/ malty, caramel, estery, and alcohol as it warms; lightly nutty and toasty, and the strong smell of cigarette smoke as someone just lights on just down the bar! Flavor is also hoppy citrus at first, but has a very well balanced malt sweetness; Caramel and some toasty flavors, alcohol w/ a sweet malt finish and hop flavored aftertaste. Esters come through as it warms. Full bodied w/ low level of carbonation; very smooth, alcohol lightly warming and well hidden. To me this is more of an Am. BW than an old ale, but it's still another good beer from Buckeye. deprogram (112), Renton, Washington, USA Oct 27, 2003 16 oz. draft at Buckeye Mmmm. Garin comes out with a beer that really makes me tingle (in a nice way of course). Thick, rich, muddy brown head atop a dark, syrupy liquid that stops just short of being completely opaque. Very sweet, loads of malt overload the palate, loads of alcohol overload the brain. Initially, the sugar overwhelms, but on the second sip the hops round out the taste with a touch of citrusy bitterness. Big, heavy body, but not as tar-like as some dark ales. Most satisfying :> Drew (2406), Kent, Ohio, USA Sep 17, 2003 This was a strong one. Very clear ruby red body, no head, little lacing (because of the stronger alc?). Flavor was sweet and strong, some dark fruit notes, malts were thick and sticky - very nice palate. I want to say that the hops were very stong, but I think they ultimately lost the battle to the malts. At 9%, this really warped my senses. JasonG (700), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 8, 2003 On tap at brewery. Dark reddish brown color with very little head. Aroma is malty and pretty sweet. Flavor is strong in roasted malts and caramel, a bit too sweet for me. Low carbonation, syrupy mouthfeel (kinda reminds me of Gale Old Prize ale). Although by no means the best thing coming out of Buckeye, still a nice attempt at one of my favorite styles. He just brewed a small batch, so I'm not sure how much longer it will be around, or if it will be back. If you want some, get there soon.
