BBB63 (3767), La Porte, Indiana, USA May 22, 2008 Growler at DLD, thanks to whichever Ohioan brought this: Clean golden hue with a small fizzy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of grains, apple, noble grassy hops, and moderate meaty smoke. A nice little palate break from all the big beers of the day, grainy and bitter, crisp and clean finish with a light ashy smoke tone. The mouth feel is quite refreshing, lively and crisp. I like it, different take on the style for sure. TheShat (122), Lakewood, Ohio, USA May 17, 2008 Tried this at Buckeye Beer Engine. Draft was golden with a creamy head. The aroma is faintly malty but there was a strong sour milk flavor. The taste was slightly sweet with just a touch of banana. There is a smokiness that sets in at the finish. I am not a big fan of Kolsch syle beers but this smoked version is a pleasant experiece. Glouglouburp (1915), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 14, 2008 In short: A smoked Kolsh. Amazingly drinkable.
How: Tap at brewpub.
The look: Clear blonde body with a small white head
In long: Smoke and honeyed cereals coexist peacefully. Smooth body with expansive carbonation. Light tartness with light lemony notes. The Kolsh style usually never does it for me but this smoked twist really worked. I guess a Kolsh is just like me in my 20s, a lot less boring when smoked!
