Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

Bottle thanks to Andrew (IMtheoptimator) at the CL gathering the other night. Perhaps a bit old, but still good overall. Pours a nice medium orange with some hazy and a nice off white fluffy head. Aroma is citrus and grasy with hints of orange peel and light caramel malts-slightly oxidized as well- papery. Ligher flavor with some citrus, herbs, tea-like and grassy with lighter pine and orange. Ok mouthfeel but is a bit highly carbonated- possibly due to age. Decetn IPA overall.

Brownish orange, with a decent sized beige head. Fresh piney hop aroma, with an earthy, "dirty" note. Flavor is very earthy, toasty, possibly a touch of molasses. Big piney, resiny, hops in the finish. Very Tasty. Thnaks, Secret Santa!

Nice looking copper color with a decent white head. Smells of earthy hops. The taste is balanced and the hop profile feels unique and offers a balance of citrus and more earthy noble breathren.

Sampled on 11/28/2006 at the Winking Lizard Tavern (Crosswoods) in Columbus, Ohio... Clear, golden/light copper color with a nice yellowish head and moderate carbonation. Some lacing. The aroma had a bit of sweetness to it and lots of grapefruit/orange, pine/resin, and floral hops. The flavor had a nice sweet, malty base and a wonderful bouquet of different hop flavors (like the aroma). This brew packed some bittereness, but it was well balanced and not overpowering. Medium body with an almost sticky mouthfeel. This was another great IPA! -- When I ordered this beer the waitress asked me if I was sure I wanted it because no one else she had served it to liked it. I thought that this was a really nice IPA - bitter, but not overpowering and a nice blend of hop flavors. It was really good on draught and bet the bottle is just as tasty! 22 oz draught, $4.95 from the Winking Lizard Tavern.
