Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a slightly hazy typically carbonated dark . The strong aroma was of piney hops. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of piney hops. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

22 oz bottle via cewldre (thanks!). This pours a semi hazy amber with an average size beige head. Nice powerful hoppy aroma with lots of grapefruit and pine notes. Tastes like it smells with lots of resiny pine, some orange and grapefruit on top of an almost adequate malt backbone. Full mouthfeel, almost syrupy. Bittersweet finish with a lot of bitterness. A bit of a dry metallic aftertaste...A nice above average ipa for us ex-hippies.

Bottle from Dilly Deli. Medium ivory fizzy head that was mostly lasting, virtually no lacing, minimal carbonation, transparent, and a deep orange hue. Nose was hoppy, malty, fruity, note of caramel and citrus and pretty much ditto for the flavor. Mouthfeel was tingly and hoppy. Medium body. Decent IPA and I’m not a fan of IPA’s, but this one I could handle because it was not over-the-top hops. Thanks BBC!!

22 oz. bottle, from OhioDad - thanks! Pours a clear copper color with a creamy off white head that leaves spotty lacing. Malty aroma, with slightly overripe summer fruits, hints of caramel along with floral and citrus hops. Flavor is also malty, with toasty and light caramel flavors, but is dominated by hops with notes of daisies, orange, lemon zest and a bit of dust. Medium body and creamy carbonation. Pretty darned good.

unfortunately, this was a very oxidized bottle, There were parery notes in the nose and the falvor profile was almost indiscernable, though i suspect that Chinook was used heavily in mid-boil because I got that ’chinook cider’ flavor i hate.

22 oz pours light orange in color with a little fading head. Floral and malty aroma fairly light and faded. Sweet carmel malt and orange citrus flavors with a very lightly bitter grainy haylike finish. Not bitter at all for an IPA mostly mellowed and not very good. Either an old or bad bottle.

Deep bronze on the pour with some sediment and an attractive tan head. The aroma has a nice balance between solid caramel malt and resinous pine / wood hops. Medium / full body with a nice amount of semi-sharp carbonation and resiny feel. The taste starts with woody assertive hops and some dark caramel malt for balance. The finish gets even hoppier with dark earthy / woody hops and some pine. It comes across as an almost roasted hop taste. This is a well done IPA.
