Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

Bottle from Moejuck (thanks!) Dark hazy orange pour and lots of syrupy and citrusy hops aroma. Robust bitter hops and pine flavor then finishes a little thin with some citrus. Decent IPA worth try, but I probably won’t trade for it again.

On tap at Buckeye Beer Engine. Clear amber pour with a medium off-white head. The aroma is pretty faint, not sure if it’s normally that way or if this is too cold. Anywho, I’m getting the floral and citrusy Cascades. Grassy and citrusy hop flavor with just a touch of malt before the bitter finish.

Pours orange with thin white head. Sweet pine and citrus aromas. Sharp hop flavors balanced out by nice malt tones. Bigger beer than i thought. A nice offering from Buckeye.

Thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours yellow-brown with an off-white head. Nose is caramel, pine, some slight vanilla, and hops throughout. Flavor is caramel, grapefruit, and some sweet citrus and pine tang. Sweet notes running throughout this IPA. Finish lingers with biting pine in this medium-bodied IPA.

Bottle pour, amber color with a decent white head.Aroma was hops and citrus, orange dominating.Tasted the same with very strong hop flavors and just enough citrus to come through to balance it out and nice malt hints in there as well.Nice.

First let me say this is more DIPA territorry than IPA. Big fragrant swirling aroma of hops. Looks pretty appealing in the glass. Streams of fine sparkling carbonation. Fine medium thickness alabaster head leaves friendly rings for lacing. Bitter soap first sip. Followed by a taste bud impact of rototilling palate. Nasty rudeness, more nasty than most other IPAs. A personality you cannot get tired of. Lets mix green grapefruit rinds and dish soap in the blender for a healthy drink. Oily coating, but still glad to have tried it. $5 per bomber at the Vintage. On the finish, the linger stays with you like the refridgerator that won’t shut off in the middle of the night.
