Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

The elusive Hippie IPA finally comes into my grips and it’s worth the wait. Darker color then I expected but the fresh floral hops surely don’t dissapoint. Hoppy, malty, hoppy, malty back & forth this IPA goes. My only knock is that it’s a bit sweet with artificial orange concentrate. Nice head, lacing and tasty malts make it all good.

bottle courtesy of richlikebeer... Appears an orange amber with a fluffy white head. Tiny lacing is left behind. Smell is of biscuity malt and orange/citrusy hops. Taste is of the same pleasant aromas with nothing more to be said. Mouthfeel is a bit acidic and citrus, and medium bodied. Drinkability is good. I enjoyed the flavors from this Ohio brewery.

Bottle. Subdued molasses aroma with a high alcohol presence. Amber in color with a small, off-white head and excellent lace. Very nice, hoppy initial mouthfeel. A little dry and salty. As such, it could be better balanced. Very good however, with a very nice finish.

Murky brown orange, large rocky offwhite head. Diacetyl and muted floral hops in the aroma. Huge buttery diacetyl character with doughy malt undertones. Resinous bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium and fairly dry.

MilkmanDan’s MN Welcome Night: Gold color with no head. Aroma is full of spice that I would expect in a holiday brew, with some hops on the end. Earthy taste with very bitter hops. Bone dry finish.
