Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

reddish amber, thin layer of white head, strong pine hop nose, malts backing it up very well. an excellent blend with a nice balance and just enough hops to get you to notice them in the tail, but not overwhelming in the bitterness dept. i really dont think this is an 80 ibu beer, but it is a nice easy smooth drinking beer.

Copper orange wioth foamy head. Nose is interesting, very floral. Some citrus notes also present. Taste was also very floral with some malt to balance out some of the hops. Lightly bitter, nothing overdone. Solid brew.

Thanks to Secret Santa for this beer.

Poured a clear effervescent dark amber with a large semi-creamy off-white head. Clean piney hops aroma. Flavor is very dry, piney and bitter. Just a touch of sweetness helps to balance the good hop bitterness. Perhaps a little too dry and straight-forward, but this is a darn good beer.

Bomber bottle. Dark hazy amber with huge frothy off-white head that lasted for the complete brew. Major hoppy aroma. Full body. Full flavor with a major hoppy taste with a moderate bitter finish. Very good brew.

Dark Murky brown with a fine white head. Nose is of definite hop presence. Taste is stron hoppy wiht a acidic tang. Very refreshing. Mouthfeel is very smooth, full and round. Beer finishes very hoppy indeed. Nice strong, yet not overpowering hop experience.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with OhioDad (thanks!). Poured a dark and hazy amber color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of juicy oranges, grapefruit and light caramel. Tastes of grapefruits (stronger in the taste than the smell), oranges, caramel, and some pine. Medium bitter with a light sweetness to it.

Bottle. Dark hazy ambery pour. Intriguing aroma of grapefruit citrus, citrus rind, and maybe hints of caramel. I enjoyed the flavor even more though. Sweet light-caramel / molasses, and some almost sugary-sweetness. Balanced by a huge dose of piney and citrusy hops. A good bitter bite that is clean, and lingers a little, but not forever. Very nice IPA.
