Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

Bomber from SkepticMAP and OhioDad, not sure who’s bottle I drank. Shared with OldGrowth on 5/28/2005. Caramel malt in the nose, crystal malt as well, smelling rather dry on the end, a bit of paper? Fruity yeast notes, some diacetyl. Amber-ruby colored body, with a white head that slowly recedes to a ring. Lightly hazy. Flavor is pure caramel/dextrin sugariness, very resinous hops flavor throughout ending highly bitter. Some candied-citrus notes from the cascades and caramel interplay. Medium-full body. Bits of fruitiness linger on. Great malt extraction, but just too much resin for my liking. Great mouthfeel, low carbonation, fluffy. Moderate lacing on the glass. Would definitely like to try this again fresh on tap.

Poured cloudy dark amber with a decent offwhite head that faded to about a quarter of an inch and remained all the way down the glass. Lots of aroma.. Aromas of grapefruits growing in a field of caramel fill my nose. Very much citrus taste and some dough background make this the creamiest IPA I’ve tasted. Coats the inside of the mouth well and has some nice back bite bitterness from the 80 IBUs. This is a solid IPA that is backed well with malt just the way I like them. Very balanced and tasty. Getting to the bottom of the 22 oz bomber only made me ask for more! This really makes me want to try the 76 soon!

Poured a hazy medium amber with a medium off white head. Big grapefruit aroma with caramel amlt underneath. Malt flavor is a little light leaving mostly bitterness in the mouth. A little unbalanced for me. Light to medium body.

Bomber, compliments of captcougar, thanks Tom ! Small tan head, fair retention and lace. Lightly hazy copper/amber colored brew. Big, citrusy hop nose with caramel malt backing, fruity. Med/full body, resiny. Lotsa hop flavor, citrus, light floral notes, backed by a fair amount of malt, biscuity and toasty. A heavy handed IPA, not alot of finesse, just straight forward raw power! Finish is dry, biting. A hefty IPA indeed. Peace!

Pours a beautiful golden tan brown with HUGE head. Actually, upon first pour i had about 90% head; too much in my opinion. All was well once my beautiful girlfriend took the reins (sad, ehh). Great, great lacing. Flavor is very well balanced, with a very dry hop flavor. Earthy. Zingy. What i particularly like about this beer is that it presents a wonderful hop palate without being particularly overpowering. It’s truly supurbly balanced.

Thick foamy head and light lacing. Dark copper colour. Restrained malty grapefruit aroma. Beer is malty but still dominated by dry hop flavour. 3D hops are present in every aspect of flavour and long finish. Some sweetness remains on the lips but a very dry hoppy beer.

Local brew for me. Had both on tap and bottle. Not the strongest IPA around but it is good with slight citrus and malty flavors. Poured real nice and left some sporadic lacing. I like this beer beter from the bottle. I will be making some of my own soon but will add a 90 minute to the task!

12.27.04 22oz bomber thanks to bkelley68. Beautiful copper brown with rocky tan head. Aroma is telltale cascade and fresh bread. Flavors are insanely balanced, crazy c-hops, bitter northern brewer bite...I’d have a heck of a time deciphering this from SN Celebration ale in a blind tasting. It might tend towards a bit bland as I get to the bottom of the bomber, but that could be the effect of the hops. It’s very very good, maybe underrated. Me like!
