Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

Thanks to Rockinout for this specimen. Poured a deep orange color. Nice off-white head, lasts forever. Aroma is like opening a bag of hop leafs. Nice malt bill. Sweet malt for an instant then the hop assault. Hops linger pleasantly. Damn nice job. I am eager to try the Buckeye 76 tomorrow.

Thanks to BBB63 for this one. Pours turbid orangish with a massive head. Aroma of malt, hops, citrus. Tastes hoppy, with a solid malt backbone, and some finishing hops and a slight Belgian strong ale twinge. The palate is firm and smooth.

Dark orange. Grapefruit and peach nose, smooth aroma of cream and orange, very spicy as well. Mellow burnt orange with light sweet spices.

Solid fruity aroma, complimented by the hops. A hint of caramel also. Malty caramel background, but the hops feel too "mountain fresh" for my taste. Fairly typical in my opinion.

Bottle @ RBSG 04’ Grand Tasting
Golden bronze, light film of head/lacing. The aroma is nice & hoppy with a citrusy light hops nose & some balanced caramel malts. The light oak finish with the sweetness & the hops works very well. Good IPA.

Gentle grapefruit nose. Smooth, easy-to-drink body. Yeasty and earthy notes throughout. Malts had a gritty chalkiness to them (not a bad thing), and some really nice hints of chocolate. Sweet malt base. Light grapefruit aromas. Surely had an element of hippie-granola-ness to it; kind of hard to explain, but it fit the name. Sweetness became a little much, but overall it was pretty decent.

(RBSG04) Clear amber body with big off-white head. Aroma is sweet, grapefruit/herbal. Taste is sweet, grapefruit, orange, caramel. Medium-full body with decent amount of resin.
