Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

RBSG 2004: Clear orange with a large rocky off-white head. Light hops in the aroma, starts and ends bitter. Medium bodied with a short ending that has some wood character to it.

Dark amber with a creamy off white head and lacing. Piney aroma with bitter hops and slight spices. Malty and bitter hops in the flavor. Both floral and citrus. Very smooth, bitter finish.

Pours a amber color with an ivory head. Along with the hops in the aroma is a interesting spice smell. Taste starts sweet and malty, with some wheat character, and ends with a good hop bitterness to finish it off.

The beer after its departure from the 22 ounce brown bottle takes up residence in my glass a nebulous rusty brown color, the head is dinosauric in size, creamy in consistency and the color a winsome light tan in color, after its decomposition the lace forms a thick and glutinous sheet to conceal the glass. The citrus like aroma of hops, and the sweet malt join to make a great nose, clean, fresh and oh so appetizing these IPA’s, and a style I once shunned like a trip to the dentist for a root canal. Start is sweet, rich with malt, the top fair to middling in its feel with the finish determined in its acidity. Hops are delectable, spicy in their bite, the aftertaste dry as the Arizona desert, a nice drinking IPA, not weak or not over the top, just plain “Good”, can’t ask for more than that.

Big off white head, great retention. Golden color with bubbles on the side of the glass. Pleasently bitter fresh hop aroma. Taste is medium bodied, caramely up front then good hoppy bitterness with some chocolate in the finish. Very drinkable. A nice IPA.

a nice IPA,. aroma is hoppy with hints of farmhouse in it .. a bit malty for a IPA but nicely balanced with quite aggressive hops.
