Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

The ruby-brown body seemed to catch the light and shimmers with effervesence. The head is on the small side, but dense and creamy and never completely fades, leaving a thick, even sheet of foam across the top until the very end. This is a very malty IPA, slightly sweet with caramel and toast dominating the flavor. The hops are evident in the aroma and their bittering of the finish, but this is a pretty balanced IPA.

Pours a really nice and bright clear orange color with a big white head and good lacing. Aroma is very hoppy, lots of citrus and grapefruit. Flavor is balanced well between the bitter hops and sweet malt. Body is medium. This one gave me some nice hop burps.

Damn hippy sheeyut. Tried to give the bottle a haircut but it arrogantly ran to find it’s own glass and start shouting and spouting about hops and malt. Me likee. Want MORE!

THis IPA pours with a clear amber body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is sweet, grapefruity and hoppy with a nice appricot note and a little malt. The flavor is slightly sweet yet very bitter with notes of appricot and pine. Medium bodied, slightly warming and dry.

orangey amber, thin head..plump hoppy aroma with grapefruit notes (similar to dreadnaught, 60 minute, and Hop Wallup) Almost alcoholic fumes too...thick, sweet, orange candy flavors..very plump and orangey.

Copper/amber in colour. Aroma of citrus hops, mild lemon and grapefruit, with some pine. Flavour was fairly mild for an IPA, with some hops, lots of oranges with some malt and caramel. Medium bitterness. Finishes with a lingering hoppy bitterness. Nice.

Really liked this IPA - cheers to kujo9. Rich copper colour with big, frothy head. Lots of the great outdoors in the aroma - pine trees & grapefruit grove. Lots of hops then sweet malts then a thick, lingering hop finish. Nice.

Bottle pours deep amber with a frothy off-white head.   Lacing seems superb, carbonation is soft.   Pure hop aroma, slight pine.   Very inviting.   Flavor is very similar to a Pacific Northwest IPA, yet this one seems to be a bit maltier.   Hoppy up front, malty towards the middle, with an odd sour piney finish.   Not as crisp as I would have hoped, but it still has decent body and mouthfeel.   Only thing bugging me is the aqward finish.   Clean, but not crisp.   Still quite enjoyable!   Thanks goes out to jsquire for the trade!
