Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden with a medium white head. Good hop aromas. Flavors are hoppy with a strong almost a Belgium yeast note. Fairly dry mouth.

22 oz bottle. Poured clear golden amber in color with a massive foamy beige head that left great lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, pine and some fairly sweet malt. Tastes is very piney, some solid citrus hops and a nice caramel malt base. Nice hop presence and great body. I really enjoyed this one. I could drink tons of this.

From bottle. Part of January Dayton Beer Tasting event. Pours cloudy honey/brown with a thick eggshell head. Aromas of citrus hopd and malt. The 80IBU’s show in the taste with force. Decent finish. As others have said - the color is not the best - so close your eyes and enjoy the taste if you get a chance.

bomber into shaker. I had to pour this slowly in stages because the head is a serious grower. Hazy honey brown color (not the most appealing color) with a nice big rocky head. The nose is all fresh floral hops. Flavor is (really) biting pine hops upfront; the pale malt comes through on the finish, through which the hops maintain a steady presence. Alcohol is hidden well. Medium carbonation, medium to light body. Overall: solid though nothing special. A bit one dimensional and out of balance but still good on the whole.

Bomber courtesy of DrHomolka. Pours a clear medium amber with a huge 4 finger white head and nice lacing. Nose is floral and citrus hops and caramel. Taste is sweet malt in the foreground with a big citrus hop flavor finished by a pinesol finish that sticks around for awhile. Light-to-medium mouth feel. Nice hoppy IPA. Thanks Dan!

22oz bottle in Columbus, Ohio. Cloudy amber brown with a thick cream head; aroma of oranges and caramel malts; sharply bitter hop flavours make the mouth tingle. Under the hops there are sweet citrus flavours. A very drinkable IPA let down by the appearance.

Pretty nice and solid IPA. Nice floral aroma and a nice blaance of hops. Good flavor of flowers and also metallic hops in here. Copper bite on the backend. Very creamy and rich texture. Strong grass and lemon flavor in here as well. Good malt backbone, that never takes center stage. Slight notes of bread. Very good for a stanrd IPA.

22oz bottle from crizay. Good floral aroma. Orange body with off white head. Good juicy citrus flavor with a malt backbone that took away the crispness of an ipa. Good beer thanks Chris.
