Commercial Description:
The Hippie I.P.A. continues to be the Buckeye Brewing Company’s best selling beer. First brewed in the summer of ’98, the “Hippie” has become a Cleveland classic among hop lovers. Reminiscent of ales brewed on the Pacific west coast, the Hippie I.P.A. is big, rich in malt and chock full of hops. American malts are used in the grain bill, including pale ale, crystal, dextrin malt and torrified wheat. It is hopped five times with a combination of Northern Brewer and Cascade. After fermentation, hops are added “dry” to impart bold hop aroma. The Hippie starts at 1.068 and is 80 IBU’s.

Amber body with big light brown head. Aroma is piney and hoppy. Not much to this beer other than floral bitterness. Not balanced enough for my tastes.

22oz bottle, no date from puddintane and the Mystery Swap 3.0--thanks! Clear medium orange with a two finger eggshell head, fading to a 1/2 finger and retaining well. Citrus hops dominate--orange, more specifically--and some grassy notes with a pretty good biscuit and caramel backbone. Some perfumey hops become apparent in the flavor. Considering it is an IPA, the aroma seemed fairly well balanced--not as much with the flavor, but still more balanced than a lot of IPAs I’ve had. Dry finish with bitterness peaking around a 5-6 and lingering in the back corners of my tongue. Medium body with light to moderate carbonation. Maybe because it was my first beer of the day since my shitty sunburn, but this beer made me happy.

Bomber compliments of DrBayern (Thanks Matt!). Pours A medium dark amber, aroma of hops, citruis flowers and slight carameled woods. Formed small slightly off white foamy head. Flavour was of citrus tones with a hopped character, a bit dry with a floral hint. Both sweetly malty and dry hopped. Impressive beer, baby want more baby want it in tap!

Pours a cloudy amber with very fluffy head. Except for the over carbonation, this is a pretty good IPA. There is a dry malt profile, which I like. Nothing sweet here - instead a very dry, woody flavor with lots of florals and bitters in the hop profile.

Thanks to Rogueone for this! Hazy orange pour with fluffy off white head. Floral hops on the nose. Hops and malts. Thin bodied, however this is a tasty beer!

Cheers to miketd for this local brew. Pours cloudy orange with a light, fluffy offwhite head, nice sticky lace. Smells dark and floral hoppy with a nice malt presence, I smell a little burnt plastic as well. Taste is hop syrupy but with that ever present taste of burned plastic. Other than that plastic flavor this is a good beer. Flavor is good, slightly floral, and bitter. Medium body, vibrant but smooth carbonation

Bottle at Rudy’s tasting May ’08, courtesy of Rudy. Sharp resiny hops in aroma. Neat dark brown, small white head. Sharp hop taste. Body is a tad watery making this seem very bitter. Good stuff.
