2008-05-17. Dark ruby tinged brown bdoy with a smallish tan head. (3+) Sweetish aroma, malt, sugars. (6+) Sweet flavour, light bitterness, tangy note (but pleasantly so, when often that descriptor is not pleasant for me) to the finish that lingers. (6+) Average palate is a bit light for the style but passable. Simple but quaffable. At Rudolf’s, shared by Rudolf

Bottle, shared at the May 2008 tasting. Very dark brown, off-white head. Nose is caramel, alcohol, rochefort yeastiness, clove. Flavor is honey, burnt malt, dark plums & tobacco, yeast. Slightly acrid, overly bitter. But it sure smells nice.

Bottle at Rudy’s tasting May ’08, courtesy of Rudy. Dark brown with lots of red, decent sized head. Spicy, nutty aroma. Good taste, more nuttiness and spiciness. Bitter spicy finish. A good winter warmer, body is juts a little thin.

Thanks for sharing Yaniv! Pours a dark reddish brown with a decent tan head. Fruity sweet dark malt character. Some cinnamon peaks in. A definite raisin presence. Smooth creamy mouth with small bubbles. Sweet dark fruits, particularly raisins. Some cinnamon over some small roastiness. A clean bit of those Belgian-stylie esters give a nice lighter fruitiness. A late onset roast pops up. One of my favorites so far in the style.

Dark ruby red/brown with medium head. Aroma is an odd mix of belgian yeast and musty earth. Very smooth take on a dubbel, while not giving up much room for taste. Belgian yeast, banana, caramel and light dark fruit all come through to make for a pretty enjoyable beer. Not much spice. A bit thin.

Bomber thanks to Hophead75. Pours a nice appearance- bright red body with a thick foamy rocky head but fades slightly. Aroma is realy dried stale hard raisins, apple juice, and nutty chocolate- and deep dark sharp caramel, some fruity esters, but not as yeasty and authentic as some belgians. Sharp caramel malts in the flavor, sweet prunes and raisin, light woodiness, and a slight slick malt profile- again with wierd esters and a crisp yeastiness. Weak finish- seems 1 dimensional, but still not my favorite style anyway. Meh.

Bottle shared by iowaherkeye. Thanks Joey. Poured a dark brown color with ruby light shining through. Head was khaki and left a bit of lace behind. Nice aroma of fig, dry leaves, clove, nuts, and a hint of white wine. Medium to full bodied with modest sweetness. Soft mouth feel with carbonation on the low end of the spectrum. Vinous without overpowering alcohol. Tasted of fresh cereal grain and subdued clove. Good beer.

22 oz bottle split three ways, initially sent to me as a trade extra from Schroppfy, thanks! Dark brown in color with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel, light spices, dark fruit. Taste is medium bodied with caramel, dark fruit-raisins, and hints of candi sugar. It wasn’t bad, just didn’t seem very rounded out to me.
