At the time of popping this open I was over seven hours into a beer night and my notes are still very legible. Pours hazy brown with a moderately sized tan head that had very good retension. The aroma is very authentic for an American interpretation. Lots of earthiness and sweetness. Taste starts with some caramel malt, but quickly turns to an earthy rich Belgium style malt. Very rich and malty. The finish has earthiness with some spicy hops - lots of smoothness from the malts. Some of the caramel on the beginning comes back. With this being sitting around a bit it has aged very nicely. Recommended. There were solme very dark fruits and vanilla in the nose. the flavor delivered a very nice, if a bit yeasty, chocolaty tone. The head was a nice, dense beige. very nice beer. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 22, 2006 Bomber. Poured a clear medium coppery/brown with a short, swirly beige head. Nose picked up spicy dark fruits, caramel, and a bit of vanilla... good sweet/spicy contrast. Plums, prunes, and sweet caramel at the flavor core along with pepper and clove spiciness, leafy hops, and bready/biscuity malts as it warmed up a bit... spicy vinous finish. Felt OK on the palate, but certainly not great. This was a good drink. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 17, 2006 Thanks to OhioDad for this one.
A firm, creamy, tan head easily forms over this deep brown, ruby tinged body. Forms a beautiful lace as well.
Dark caramel aroma with dark fruits suggestive of prunes.
The flavor is sweet overall with a firm bitterness underneath.
Smmoth coating and slick mouthfeel.
As this warms, the bitterness fades and some additional complexities devlop and the palate continues to smooth out. Nice one. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA

Appears a hazy dark amber toned brown with a tiny off white head that slowly fades out. Spotty lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of fruity black grapes, plums, caramel, raisins, and vanilla...can we say Westmalle yeast strain?
Taste is of the same aromas with a wonderful mix of malts and Belgian yeast coming through.
Mouthfeel is dry, sugary, and sweet all in a medium body.
This is a pretty nice beer that made me wanting to look for more Dubbels out there that I haven’t had.

Poured a medium and clear reddish/brown color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruits (plums and raisins), yeast, and caramel. Tastes follow the same. Fizzy and carbonated body (that didn’t detract). egajdzis (3640), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
