The beer pours to a nice ruby body with a fully lasting rocky/foamy light beige colored head. Nice visible carbonation. Excellent lacing. The aroma is dry hay/straw. Light caramel/molasses. The flavor is basically as Dave says... Plummy/raisin notes with cherry fruit and brown sugar. Some spicy earthyness to it too. The palate is very rich and creamy, decently carbonated. A pretty enjoyable beer in a style I despise. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Crystal malt, dust and plum aroma with minty leaf/alcohol at the end. Good mouthfeel - mouthcoating and creamy but not too heavy. Good flavor, too. Plummy/rasin notes with cherry fruit and brown sugar. Some tart hopping at the end. An enjoyable, sweet dubbel. MIBRomeo (1965), Wisconsin, USA

Mahogony colored pour w/ lots of visable carbonation and a gigantic light tan head. Odd aroma yeast hay spices some belgian sweetness. Palate is well coated and lightly creamy. Flavor is good. Sweet candied sugars, banannas, figs, carmel... w/ prevelant alcohol. CaptainCougar (5530), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Nice, authentic Belgian malty, dark caramel aroma with good mild yeasty spice authenticity. Body starts with a good, earthy caramel and biscuity sweetness with pleasant Belgian yeasty balance and authenticity. kramer (2514), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA

Fairly vigerous fine streams of carbonation rising. Very nice aroma of chewy caramel and toffee malt, bananas, dates, figs, butterscotch, and candi sugar. Flavor is well balanced between the sweet malts and the fruity esters from the yeast. Finish is toffee and butterscotch with fairly high alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a thick chewy texture and moderate fizzy carbonation. Finish is mouthcoating. Overall, not too much to criticize about this, maybe a touch too much alcohol but otherwise very good and done to style. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 23, 2006 Poured a slightly hazed amber color with a medium off-white head. The aroma was sweet and fruity with apples and bananas. Fruity and malty flavor with dark fruits mostly. A little on the thin light side. sloth (1681), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 14, 2006 Large light brown head, good retention with a light scattered lace. Clear, auburn hued brew, nice looker. Nose is earthy, a touch dirty, some dark fruits, hint of overripe banannas. Body is medium, soft mouthfeel, gentle carbonation. Medium sweet malts, dark fruits, plums, raisins and some buttery notes followed by light caramel and an underlying roastiness. Finish is lightly sweet malts and dark fruits, quick. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 27, 2006 Pours like a thing of beauty with burnt red yellow, orange and brown throughout. Spiced fruit aroma just a little too thin in the mouth, shows some impressive malt and bread flavors as it warms. It almost all comes together but not quite. Easily drinkable abbey for those who don’t typically enjoy this style.
