Last year I sampled the 2006 vintage, and if my memory serves me correctly, that one tasted much better. This one is too sweet and needs more hops. Skyview (4095), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA

Pours a clear copper amber brew with a creamy thick beige head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and beige ring. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, some toffee and fresh green cucumber. Taste is... gawd awful! What is this? The label says it is a dopplebock, this website says it is a malt liquor. All I know it tastes like sweet anti-freeze with some flat sweet root beer. C’mon A/B, with all the sophisticated, computerized, state of the art brewing equipment you have can do better than this. Total drain pour! joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Smells like a corny adjuncty sweet malty dopplebock. Kinda watery and an odd metallic bitterness. I actually expected more from AB. Oh well, next year maybe? LinusStick (1855), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Wow is this bad. I wish my objective rating would let me rate this lower. I was ready to go to bed, but I didn’t want sleep to dim the hatred I have towards this rubbish. Aroma was actually good. Stronlg astringent face cleanser with some malt. Pour was beautiful for a malt liquor. A sparkling deep red with a one finger off white head. Taste was terrible. Strong burning malt with a lot of sugar. It’s weird but after the swallow there are strong esther vapors coming up through the sinuses. This is bad of a new level. If not for the good aroma and beautiful appearance this would be close to 0 cheapdark (2049), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA

When I first saw this bottle I thought it was just regular Budweiser or Michelob repackaged. I got it free from my retailer for Christmas, I’m one of his pretty loyal customers so I don’t have any idea what this stuff cost. It’s a big flip top 32 oz bottle with a ‘born on’ date of Sept 25, 2007. When I first pop the lid it has a mild aroma of freshly baked Italian bread. In a sniffer it clears to a more ‘alky like’ strong ale sweet candy smell reminiscent of a sweet helles. The look of this beer is reddish orange and innocently clear nothing like the pale yellow brew pictured on this website. Has a circumjacense of foam around the inside edge of the glass for a head. Otherwise, the head is just plain old tea froth on top. When you pour it and swish it around in the glass, it seems to have a little higher viscosity than most beers. The taste of this is certainly very strong and alcoholic but it does seem to hide its 8.5%b rather well. I’ve tasted other brews that are much less alky % yet much stronger on the palate. Has some adolescent cherry barrel wood flavor in there at times. Provides a lingering back throat bitter malt without alky burn. This brew is not warming at all. Except for the alky maltiness, it comes across intrinsically insipid. Here this beer is listed as a malt liquor, but I must disagree. On the label it claims to be a doppelbock and it is certainly a doppelbock. Most of the taste attributes of this brew make it so. It has many more manners than any malt liquor I have ever tasted, next to perhaps, Rogues Daddy’s Little Helper. The carbonation of this brew is laid back. Fuzziness is nearly next to nothing. Sibilation is barely there. All one can detect is a mild tingly sensation if you really look for it. Overall you can tell a lot of thought has been put into the making of this beer. Perhaps I am not good enough for this and cannot really enjoy it’s personality, but I must say it has the attributes of many 3.5 or higher rated craft and import beers I’ve seen on this site. Finish is just like any high quality alky brew, not like cheap malt liquor.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2007 Yo, my buddy and I snagged a handle of this from our local brewery. I threw mine in a pint glass, from which I could clearly distinguish the faint aroma of toffee, caramel, and Land-O-Lakes butta. The taste was smooth, yet somewhat refined. My main man demonstrated this refinement by pouring his into a ceramic teacup and "raising the roof" at the same time he rose his pinky finger. There was a definite aftertaste, similar to when you get a bit o’ grass in yo Milwaukee’s Best 40-ounce. The most gnarly feature of this particular brew is the massive champagne bottle that she’s packaged in. This is definitely taking "center-stage" on my beer wall, next to the half-empty bottle of generic tequila and alcoholic energy drinks. The 8.5% is starting to kick in now, so I better finish this up before I have to drive ho.........and if you think I just copied this from dlunsford then you are a tard, because obviously i just wrote something extra; and we did drink it together.

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 12, 2007 Courtesy of Degarth. 2007 bottling which says it’s a Dopplebock. Not sure if this should be a different entry, because this definitely wasn’t a Malt Liquor. Light brown body with amber hues. Smallish off white head with some retention and even faint lacing. Nose of toasted malt, cereal grain, floral hops and not much else. Flavor is pretty much the same, adding in some fruity esters but again heavy on the malt and grain. Heavily carbonated. ABV is not really apparent in either the nose or the flavor profile, in fact I would have guessed it was at least 2% lower than it is. Finish is lightly bitter, brief and forgettable. Light bodied without being watery, nothing offensive in that regard. Really nothing offensive overall, but I’m not sure I would call this a Dopplebock either.
